In the capital city of a country obsessed with rugby there was one hot ticket in town this summer. The event? The IRB Rugby 7's Wellington leg.It was soon apparent this event was more about the Kiwi's passion for drinking and dressing-up than rugby (they take all three equally seriously). The two day tournament turns the Westpac Stadium in Wellington harbor into a huge fancy dress party that spills out into the city centre and continues into the small hours after the final whistle is blown.
On hearing this both the Wallace's and their now tenants in residency the Love's were keen to get some tickets and enjoy the spectacle. So popular were the tickets however that they were changing hands for hundreds of kiwi dollars on various internet auction sites.Although we love a party we love a good bargain more. The solution, get dressed up, watch the rugby on TV in the flat and then hit the town dressed up when the rugby finishes and pretend we were there.
The plan was hatched and after an hour or two in the Warehouse two Rambo's and two Rocky's or Million Dollar babies were sitting in the flat with a big, cheap, carry out in front of the telly. The Loves almost lost their nerve just before we had to get the bus into town but Mrs Wallace won the Rocky press up competition and the decision was made; we were hitting the town in fancy dress.
Much relief was taken when another set of fancy dressed revelers were also waiting at the bus stop and when we arrived in town we would have been more out of place if we never dressed up.A great night out was had with lots of scissor, paper , stones, press ups, crazy dancing, pole dancing, getting in a taxi, almost getting out a taxi to save $10 and then getting in again when we realised it was 1 pound each and as you may have gathered drinking.
