First of all Happy New Year to everyone and thanks for all the messages everyone left on the blog and e-mail.
We arrived in New Zealand on the 29th of December and the first thing that struck us was that no Hogmanay street party was going to get cancelled for wind and rain. The weather was fantastic and hot. Unfortunately Qantas managed to loose our bags somewhere between New York and Auckland so the first two days of our stay was spent in the clothes we arrived in.Over 20 hours flying coupled with the heat meant our campervan soon smelled good.
From Auckland we headed straight tothe beautiful Coromandel Peninsula to meet up with the Wallaces and Thorpes and spend a few days at Shelly Beach top 10 Holiday Park to bring in the New Year. We visited a couple of stunning beaches notably Cathedral Cove and brought in the bells at a local hostilely before the main event of a full New Year games program.
Apprentice games master Drew in the tradition of Master Bilbo himself kicked the proceedings off with Simon Says. The Thorpes wondered what they had let themselves in for but by the time Play Your Cards Right and Family Misfortunes came round Gregg almost had to be restrained. "There is no way 100 people in Coromandel said that!"Great Day.
From Shelly Beach we headed around the peninsula to the west coast and managed to catch up with the Vernons at Whangamata. The weather was still great so we had an afternoon on the beach trying to catch some waves on a boogie board. Not as easy as all the 10 year old Kiwis make it look. It was great see all the Vernons though and we even got to park our van in the drive of the beach house for free.
From Whangamata the plan is to make our way down the North Island to Wellington and then onto the South Island.

Lauren Hi MarkIt's little Brother here. Wishing I was in NZ and not in London. Will have to get the next gihflt to Auckland, but unfortunately the airports are closed due to 0.5 cm of white stuff. Instead will have a glass of NZ white to remind me of the fun we had in the country when we were there. Linda has new eyes now and so can see how handsome I am without her glasses. I have noticed that since I have got back the tennis has stopped thats no good. I am yearning for a good forhand down the line with you looking on. I am pleased to hear that Lottie is good and that you are looking after her chocolate in take. Send her my love. Dan is doing really well at workand so far has done a good job early days though he better keep on his toes. I am going to suggest they come to Christmas day lunch if they are free. So keep smiling. Love Simon et al.
