Whilst I'm waiting for photos to upload on facebook, I thought I would update you all with our journey so far.
Chris left you in Penang, a very hot and humid place with great food! For the past five days we have been relaxing in Langkawi. Langkawi is situated on the west coast of Malaysia and is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.
It is home to 99 islands, although a large majority of them are inaccesible to humans due to sheer cliff faces etc. We haven't just been lying in the sun for our duration here- oh no! We have been adventure boy and girl! A few days ago we undertook an 'island hopping tour'. We really should learn not to take tours with tour agents as the places we went were very crowded! In our island hopping tour we visited a very beach, the island of the pregnant maiden (it looks like a pregnant lady!) and we saw sea eagles being fed- which was by far the best bit of the tour!Unfortunatly it is the school holidays here in Malaysia and although our beach is incredibly quiet it did seem that half the population of malaysia had also decided to do the island hopping tour, needless to say I was happy to get back to our hotel!
Yesterday we hired a very small car (who I named Normy, because I am a big loser and enjoy naming cars) and we explored the 500 square km island. It was such a fun day! Here we visited wells which had 400 stairs going up to it (you can only imagine how disgustingly sweaty I was in 35 degree heat constantly walking up through a jungle!) They were nice and cool there and great views over the islands. We also went on a cable car, which again had breath taking views, and our little car, Normy took us all the way up the highest peak in Langkawi which also showed us fantastic views over the islands! It was slightly disconserting going up the mountain as certain bits of the road were cut off due to huge landslides, something Normy wouldn't have been able to protect us from! After our exploring we thought we'd better treat ourselves to a beach, so we visited Rhu beach which was a stunning white sands, clear blue sea beach and about three other people on it. We sunned ourselves on this stunning beach and decided that it was time for us to go back home! After a quick visit to the duty free shopping centre (Langkawi is a duty free island) to pick up some beers for Chris and some chocolate for me we settled back home. We briefly popped our to grab one of the best kebabs I have ever had and munched it on the balcony of our little hut which is three seconds away from the beach. The food here, again is fabby - because Malaysia has such a mix of cultures there is so many different types of food to get! There is a strong Arab feel in langkawi, hence the excellent kebabs!
So, after our adventure day it is only natural to sun ourselves on our excellent beach a three second walk away from our hut! However, I am slightly half baked today as I forgot to turn around during my exciting read of shantaram (a book based in india, about an Australian who escapes prison to Mumbai) and therefore I am lovely and tanned on my front and not so much on my back. Its our last day tomorrow so I will be tanning my back a lot tomorrow to even out! Chris has equally got a cracking tan job going, he is now very white where his shorts have been and slightly pinky on his tummy and shins/calfs. We look like a right pair! I am also slightly limping due to a sport injury in the ocean occured when I went to catch a ball and landed on a hermit crab shell which has cut the bottom of my foot (it is the smallest cut but really hurts!!) Having just complained about the hermit crabs, they are so cool! When we popped to the beach yesterday during sunset all the crabs were crawling our to sea- it was so strange watching them. We were being posers and going into the sea to have shots taken of each other with the sunset in the back ground and when it was my turn I sat down to have my photo taken and realised I was sitting on about ten crabs! I then stood up to find myself surrounded by them! There are also small fish in the sea who today seemed very interested in us and were coming so close to us that Chris was able to catch them! He did put them straight back in the water though- don't worry!
Anyway I am yabbering away on here and I can smell the sweet smells of the kebab place sneaking into the internet cafe so I will love you and leave you.
I can't quite believe I will be back in around a month- time has gone SO quickly!
Hope you're all keeping well. Miss you all so much, lots of love xxxxx
