Arrived (08:05) into Melbourne from Los Angeles after a 14 hour flight. It felt like an endurance flight, my legs were really sore and stiff. I did have an aisle centre seat on the 747 plane but a passenger sitting next to me asked if I could change seats with her cousin who was sitting in the row in front of me but in the middle centre of the aisle seats. Being the nice person that I am I exchanged my aisle seat with the passenger's cousin's seat. Thankfully you do get more leg room in a Qantas 747 plane which made it a bit more easier to cope with during the flight but still felt like an endurance test. Slept nearly the whole way to Melbourne. Eventually passed through Australian customs to collect my baggage to hopefully connect to my next flight to Auckland, but found out when I got to the Qantas sales desk the representative said that no Qantas flights for that day were flying to Auckland New Zealand due to the volcanic ash cloud coming from Chile. Apparently the passengers on the flight from Los Angeles to Melbourne (my flight) should have been told that no flights to Auckland were being flown on the 16th of June, the day we arrived into Melbourne. So Qantas booked me onto the flight to Auckland (11:05) for the next day 17th June and also booked me into a hotel (The Olsen hotel, a very nice hotel in Melbourne, on South Yarra street) for the night, paid for by Qantas. Got to the hotel at about 10:00 so had the rest of the day to explore Melbourne for a bit. Melbourne is currently in it's autumn/winter season but to me felt like any-other typical autumn day in Scotland.
