Relaxing start in Albury with a walk along the banks of the Murray River after breakfast before heading to Melbourne. More boring highway, didn't pass through many towns until we actually reached Melbourne. Temperatures were on the rise early and by 10.00 am many of the livestock in the paddocks we passed were already seeking the shade.
37 degrees in Melbourne at the Todd Road Go Kart track where we will be spending the next three days as part of the Rotax Pro Tour. Lots of karts, trailers, cars, trucks and dust to go with the heat and flies ... what a joy.
Staying at the Hilton South Yarra and our room overlooks Port Melbourne, hoping to get some good nightime skyline photos from our window. Want to try slower shutter speed at night looking along the West Gate Bridge.
Had a wonderful Italian feed at Ilprimoposto on Southbank, inside seating in the air conditioning. Followed up with ice cream cones as we strolled back along the river to the hotel.
Australia Day saw us back at Todd Road again, complete with Australian flag tattoos on each of us (an attempt to get into the spirit of things, I just hope it comes off before going back to work). From track side we had a pretty good view of the city skyline and the Roulettes as they flew over. Dinner tonight was at a small restaurant around the corner from the hotel called The Common Man ... pity we didn't discover it earlier. All three of us ordered different dishes and they were some of the best meals we have had. Fireworks at 9.30 pm and we had a pretty good view from the river bank at the back of the hotel.
Sunday saw us leave Melbourne after racing and come back to Canberra via Lakes Entrance and Cann River. A much more enjoyable drive, you actually had to concentrate on what you were doing, no mind numbing freeway this route.
