The flight was not nearly as bad as I thought It would be, although it wasn't without it's problems. We were an hour and a half late to take off, the sound of the engines finally turning on was a relief. But the engine's sound was soon drowned out by the token screaming banshee child and it's incessant wailing. Luckily the inflight entertainment system was good and kept me occupied for the 9 hour flight.
After getting off the plane I faced the dreaded U.S border control. I had fingerprint and retina scans which were remarkably nerve wracking considering I had no chance of failing them!
Then came the travel from Denver Airport to Boulder, the bus was an hour long and was mostly uneventful...oh apart from the bus driver announcing that he'd run over a teenager the day before. He apparently "hit him good n' proper". When asked if the boy was ok the bus driver replied "I dunno, I expect not!" he then continued to merrily drive the bus like he'd said nothing out of the ordinary!
Day 2
After an all but sleepless night I wondered downtown. The high street is brilliant, many great shops and restaurants, I had lunch at a small cafe where I had a turkey, mozzarella and pesto crepe, the food here is much better than I thought it'd be. I stopped at the Ben N Jerrys ice cream parlour and in particular Jonny fashion had the largest size possible without really considering a) how expensive it'd be and b) how much of it there was!
I very impulsively bought a Yamaha semi-acosutic guitar during the day which I maintain is an essential buy, I could not have managed 4 months without a guitar.
Day 3
Moved into my halls today, the location is great and the views of the mountains from my window are breath-taking. Had many year abroad meetings and have ascertained that if I even sneeze without the required permission and information release forms then I will be deported. The food in the canteen is actually really good, I will have to watch I don't go mental and gain too much weight! Finished the day with a trip to the student recreation center and I've now found out where the tennis courts and gym are.
I'm off to bed now, hope you enjoyed reading folks, next installment coming soon.
