Wellies adventures
I must apologise in advance, this entry is all about rowing and has loads of tricky rowing jargon in, so enjoy! I'm in pymble at the moment, today i'm completley knackered, i got up at 4:30 to get on the bus and i had my first trip out in the quad with leichardt. I was pleased it was a coxless quad, at least they didn't throw me into an eight or anything like that! But they did throw me in at the deep end, i was in there first senior quad, the intermediates wenrn't training today. I was in the bow and i didn't get much warning, they just said are you fit, i said no, they laughed and said that this was going to be really hard as it was there hardest session and they are in the middle of there season. Hard is an understatement, we did what they call power strokes, its where they attach two metal tubes which drag behind you for resistance in the water and then tell you to row full pressure rate 16. we did it for and hour and a half and went to a bridge miles away, i'll find out how far later. I was dying, they were pretty powerful people, i had one guy, Charlie, in the boat and then two girls. Richie isn't quite sure who they are but he thinks my stroke is a member of the australian team who is taking abit of time off and only doing casual rowing after rowing at Athens! I got off the water and found it abit hard to walk, my whole body is stiff, even in between my ribs so i'm gonna need to do some exercise tomorrow to stop my whole body ceasing up. I have a feeling that they will put me in a lower quad next time! Well, it was good fun at least and an interesting way to get back into the boat! The girls train really hard as well, maybe even too hard i feel, i'm not quite sure how there bodies cope with it and any adaptation takes place, but maybe its just that i'm at every session and actually the girls are rotating so its not as bad as it seems. They are really lucky to have such a great stretch of water although its really windy sometimes, the girls do calisthenics which is basically circuits, weights, a bay run (8km just round the normal bay), and a few water sessions. I did calisthenics with them the other day which was hard but really benificial lots of core stability stuff, i don't fancy doing any weights i really don't like them so i havn't done them, i did a short erg on the row perfect which was abit weird coz i'm used to concept II's and thats about it.
