On Easter Day we flew from Kunming to Jinghong. It was Bill's Dad's first time on a plane. he is travelling with us (and slowly driving me insane despite never speaking a word to me!)
Jinghong (the region capital) is charming. I love it! Here I can still find all the things I love about China:
BBQ (shao kao) stalls everywhere all night long.
Beer for 30p
Milk tea (nai cha) stalls
Available taxis
Big squares for dancing and gathering at night
Fruit sellers
Traffic lights that tell you how long you have to cross
Nonsense signs in English
Ladies wearing t-shirts with 'juicy' written in the back.
The palm tree lined roads are a bonus! (Though watch a coconut doesn't fall on your head!)
Plus nobody's told me that Isaac is too cold!
We visited the Virgin Forest Park. Once Bill had recovered from paying for entrance tickets (which were only £5 each) we had a lovely time wandering through the forest. Of course Bill and his Dad are forest experts. Isaac also seemed very much at home, giggling and smiling away. We discovered a wonderful woven bamboo walkway away from the Chinese tour groups and their megaphones. Joining a tour group is unfortunately the most cost effective way to travel China these days. I would rather be broke!!

Caroline Knight Interestingly, America also has walkways which tell you how long you have to cross - very handy I thought, given I have a tendency towards the risky when it comes to traffic!
