Our next stop on the way back down the Western Coast to Perth was Kalbarri a small estuary town right on the mouth of the Murchison River and just as it flows into the Indian Ocean. Kalbarri is about 70kms from the main Brand Highway and is between Geraldton and Denham. On the detour off of the main highway we stopped at the National Park to take in the views of the river gorges at Ross Graham and Hawks Head. A platform had been constructed to just jut out of the cliff so that you could view the gorge and the river flowing from the distance, it was really pretty and we were glad that one of the rivers that we had seen actually had water in it! We made out way into the town and found a campsite just by the river mouth it was lovely and we sat on the beach for a little while before we moved on to the jetty to try some more fishing. Wayne was in luck and pulled out a little silver bream, not big enough to eat but still a start!

One of the main attractions of this town is the National Park, we had visited the river gorges but there were also some coastal cliffs that made up the rest of the park. We drove out on the coastal road the next morning to the furthest sight, natural bridge. It was a really bright morning but very hazy and a little windy when we were stood out on the top of the cliffs. The water was a brilliant blue and the waves were crashing on to the rocks, we could see how they had made a bridge/arch out of the cliffs. We moved on and visited Rainbow valley and Pot Alley but these were really for hikers to make a trek above the cliff so we decided to move on to Eagle Gorge and the Red Bluff. At Red Bluff beach we stopped on the sand and Wayne got the fishing rods out, we didn't catch anything but I sat for a while in the sunshine and read my book watching family attempt to boogie board, very amusing. In the afternoon we stripped the van and reorganised all of our belongings so that the things that we needed more often were more accessible, it took a good few hours. We then walked along the beach road looking out at the beach fishermen and the families fishing off the jetty, the sun was about to set and the rays were shining brightly off of the water. We stopped at the "Seafood Shack" (fish and chip shop) after buying some beer and ordered a couples meal. It was massive, 2 pieces of Barramundi, sea scollops, king prawns, calamari and chips with home made tartare sauce, we washed it down with the beer and watched the sun finish setting, beautiful!
