We left Nha Trang on the open tour bus at about 8am. We had only been going for 20mins when we stopped and the driver and his buddies got off, we were cursing, we just wanted to be on the way and hoped that we would not be stopping every 1/2 an hour. Then about 10 mins later our Canadian friend Elisa Lea got on the bus apparently they had forgot about her and left without her, which is why we had stopped. We got to Mui Ne a beach resort at about 1pm. Elisa Lea and I left Wayne with the bags at the place we had got dropped off and headed up the beach in search of accomodation We saw a few upmarket hotels which were out of our price range and we then ended up on the main road. We were told by some moto taxi drivers that the whole Mui Ne area (1 road) is 12km, so we hired 1 each to continue our search after about 1.5 hours we found a little place called Hoang Kim. It was on the beach and had little bungalows with a swimming pool, which was a bonus as the sea was quite rough and when the tide was in there was not a lot of beach left. We went back for Wayne and the luggage and took more motot taxis back to the accommodation about 4km. We settled in a then went to the beach and the pool just as it started to rain. In the evening we had to get Moto taxis to the centre as we were stil about 4km out. We had some BBQ ribs with Jacket potatos and salad it was lovely, we then headed to a bar for a big jug of sangria.
Day 2 - Was a pool day, the weather was lovely, but the area is very windy, which is why the sea is rough. The wind meant that although we had sun cream on we both burnt slightly! In the evening we got motos back to the centre 1 for Wayne and 1 for me & Elisa Lea, although our guy was going quite quick which was scary. After our food we stopped at a different bar for cocktails and a game of pool.
Day 3 - The weather was not good and after only an hour by the pool and a late breakfast we all decided to rent a motorbike for the afternoon so that we could see the sights. We got 2 bikes one for me and Wayne and one for Elisa Lea it only cost %uFFFD4 for the day and these ones were automatic so much easier for Wayne to drive. We headed through the centre to the town of Phan Thiet. On route the heavens opened and we got soaked even with raincoats on, we even had to stop ad shelter as it was too difficult to drive in it. The town was much bigger than I expected and therefore the traffic was pretty hectic, but we survived. We drove around some small streets where lots of locals were staring at us and some children playing football waved and said helo. On the way back we drove up a hill to see a monument that we had seen from the road on the way in. Elisa Lea went up to the monument and met Charlie the guy form the DMZ tour and Nha Trang, so we arranged to meet him that night for dinner. We then drove back through Mui Ne to Mui Ne village and to the red sand dunes. We drove up a dirt track which looked as though it would take us to the dunes but it was too difficult for Wayne to ride the bike on with me on the back! So we went back on to the main road where there were loads of children trying to get people to follow themand go sledging on the dunes. We parked up and walked up the dunes some of the children following us. The area was realy beautiful and the sand was so red. Elisa Lea decided to sledge down one of the dunes, we didn't bother which resulted in the boys trelling us to go home and basically shouting abuse at us, because we did not have a go and they therefore did not get any money out of us. In the evening Charlie met us at our apartments and we took moto taxis to the centre. I opted for fresh prawns with rice it was lovely. We then walked to a bar called Wax, which is set on the beach. We ordered our drinks and took them to the beach and sat on the bean bags which had been set out. It was really nice and they even had a fame thrower for entertainment. We had a few more drinks, we shared a bucked but this time is was a bucket from a bucket and spade with a whole bottle of Vodka in apparently!
Day 4 - Wayne's birthday - I woke up in the middle of the night being sick! I spent the whole day with an upset stomach and did not go out. We had agreed to go to dinner and have some drinks with Elisa Lea and Charlie, instead Wayne stayed in with me and watched star wars while I slept. Not the best birthday!
Day 5 - I woke feeling a bit better, but now Wayne had it and he spent the whole day in bed. We think it must have been a bug rather than from anything we ate. I managed to lay by the pool for an hour or so before the rain started and I also managed to eat a bread roll with some cheese.
Day 6 - Wayne woke feeling much better but I was not so good. We both managed to eat some plain food but we needed immodium to get us through our next journey to Ho Chi Minh City. Elisa Lea was meant to be waiting for a replacement Mastercard, but as she had been waiting for 5 days decided to give up and come with us on the bus. The journey was only 4 hours so not too bad and we were on one of the better buses which was a big big bonus!
