Hi,Munich was meant to be a time for chilling out but we arrived and there was so many people we couldn't understand why...i asked what was going on and some guy said this thing could Oktoberfest was on. So we hopped along to check out was all the fuss was about.
HA, whatever....Oktoberfest was on the top 10 things to do whilst travelling and i am sure you know me well enough to know that i didn't just 'happen' to be in the area!!
Finally after years of watching the festivities of the Oktoberfest on TV and hearing rave reviews i finally got to drink in a beer tent in Munich. Walking into one of these tents with 10-15,000 other people is something that I will never forget (well actually probably forgot before I stumbled out later that night). It was nothing like Ii had ever imagined, but a typical day goes like this
12.30pm Depart hostel heading for tent
12.31-12.59 pm ask yourself why you are heading back for another day...
1pm look in tent realise why you went back
1.01pm order first stein
1.01-11pm, drink and dance, sing on table with 10 new best (random) mates
11.30pm dirty slice of pizza
12.00am dead
and then repeat for numerous days
Other than oktoberfest didn't really do much...well did nothing actually except watch the grand final LIVE in an aussie pub...after getting to bed at 2.30am the night before, the first beer at 6.15am was not exactly the best one i have ever had...the damn Coasters got up to!!
All in all, Munich (well oktoberfest) was awesome but also took its toll on the body i can assure you!!! so in a drunken state myself and Richo (mate who i worked with back home) decided to catch the overnight train to Prague...SCHOOLBOY ERROR!! Thinking that we would have a cabin to ourselves it turned out that the train was full so instead of lying down were stuck with 4 other people in a space which really should be for 4 people!! But being the cat that i am i slept 7 1/2 of those hours anyway!!
