We are continuing the journy sth and so far we are still enjoying ourselves too much and still dont have the urge to just head home. We were hoping to camp at a place called Thunderbird park in the Tamborine mountains (about 30k's inland from the goldcoast) but due to the Qld school holidays starting a week before the Vic holidays and catching us a little unaware the place was book out. We found a beaut private campground just out of Canungra with a nice little creek flowing by.
We did however spend the next day at Thunderbird park and were happy we didnt get in to the campground as they were packed in like sardines. Thunderbird park has laser skirmish, an adventure coarse, horse riding and thunder egg fossicking. We went for the fossicking and while we were digging it seemed a waste of time and money as we found what seemed like b***** all, no eggs just fragments but when we got back he cut a couple open and they were reasonable. While we were there we managed to book the 3 girls onto a half hour horse ride. The next day we were heading out to go to a skywalk and on the side of the road it is where the locals jump off the cliff attached to hang gliders and parachutes, with hang gliders lined up i wasnt going to drive past without stopping. After a short time one of the guys took the leap of faith and made it look easy, not my kind of thing but it certainly looked easy. Next up was a lady with a parachute, she looked nervouse and seemed to be waiting for something after a while she and her friend made the decision it was time to go (i assume the wind was right) and she gave the chute a tug it filled up with air and leaped skyward then basically just lifted her off the ground and she steered it away. The chute looked easier than the hand glider but again not my cup of tea.
We headed for the skywalk next and after a quick lunch we wandered of into the tree tops, the guy explained to follow the walkway and we would hit a gravel path and follow the green arrows on the way out and the red on the way back, this seemed an odd statement as id assumed it was one way. For a tourist attraction advertised as a skywalk i was very dissapointed the walk was 40 mins long and only 10% is actually off the ground and the rest is gravel track. After a dissapointing walk we headed back to thunderbird park for the 3 girls horse ride. With Fiona aboard Shadow, Zoe aboard Ollie and Emily aboard jelly bean they set off with big smiles and had a nice ride through the bush.
The next day it was time for another big day in the car, after a stop at Byron bay (eastern most point of mainland Aus) we made it to Port Macquarie where we have spent the day doing the washing, shopping and fixing a few little things. We were only planning on 2 nights here but we have decided we would stay for 4 so we can have Emily's birthday here. Tomorrow we will try and hit the beach.
