We only spent one night in Lopburi and the next day we hopped on a train north to Phitsanulok. The journey took 5 hours in a warm but windy 3rd class train. Food and drink sellers hustled and bustled their way up and down the carriages constantly.

Once we arrived we sought out a guesthouse recommended by our guide book (Lonely Planet) called the London Hotel. It was a real dive! Thankfully the price was only 150 Baht (3 pounds) a night. Even the town didn't offer much, so we quickly decided to stay just one night. We abandoned our plan of visiting the nearby ruins of Sukhothai and went straight north the next morning to Chiang Mai.
