Tuesday 6th March
So arrived in Adelaide at 5.10am at the YHA and as I couldn't check into my room yet I decided to read some leaflets on what I wanted todo while I was here. So when I saw the opportunity to see Dolphins and to swim with them I though this was an opportunity I couldn't miss. Plus this is one of my most favourite areas for wine so I spyed a couple of trips to vineyards that I wanted to see too.
But a small spanner was thrown into the works when it came to checking in. Adelaide had two huge festivals coming up and I could only stay for two nights, so first task was to find somewhere else to stay. Luckly I did find somewhere after a couple of calls so that was sorted.
So it was then time to have a wonder around the city and get some food. They have a great market here and the produce is fantastic especially the orinental food and got some fantastic tiger prawns and did a huge stir fry for dinner.
But I also got all my trips booked too. The next day I had arranged to go on the Dolphin trip but it meant an early start and had to catch a tram to Glenelg beach at 7.00am. Then later on in the week two wine trips too.
Wednesday 7th April
Made it to the tram on time and there were quite a few other people on it too making there way to the catermaran dolphin trip too.
Got to the boat and we were issued wet suits which we had to put on straight away. Let me tell you, putting on a damp wet suit at 7.30am is not easy especially if you have never put one on before, the suit is still damp and its still early so its abit chilly in the air. But after a stuggle I got it on. Now I have never been snorkling before and looking back this was probably not the best trip to be trying it out. And we had only been out of the harbour 5 minutes when we all got into the water as some dolphins were near by. How it works is that they put out some guide ropes which you hold onto and look downinto the water to see the dolphins swim by.
We were in and out of the water several times that morning and on a couple of occations I saw the dolphins swim under me and around. But they were not in a very playful mood so they didn't swim near the boat a great deal but thats the chance that you take when you go on these trips and they are wild animals after all. But it was a great experience and if I get another opportunity to do it again on my trip I will do.
We were back in the harbour by 11.30am and I was really hungry so I was pleased I had packed a lunch with me. Genelg is a lovely sea side town with a great beach, seafront and shops too. So I wondered around and spent the rest of the day on the beach. I was back at the hostel my early evening and had a quick tea as I had to pack as I was moving hostels tomorrow.
