Firstly can I say thank you for all your remarks re my recent blog, especially to Peters PS. This is a warning to all visitors to N.Z. KEEP TO THE SPEED LIMITS! with love, Judi!!!! Or as my gorgegous kids would say, Regards Colin!!!!
Ok!
Queenstown! .Adrenalin capital of the world is the self-styled title they have. The choices are great. Bungees, Para-gliding, Para-sending, Jet river boats, Cable Car ride that goes up almost vertical, (Yes we did that! Well you really have to!) I know I said after the Cairns Cable trip, remember, the one that stopped in the clouds for 5 minutes, NEVER AGAIN! But we are in Queenstown! It was SCARY, really very scary! But the views, WOW! But us intrepid travellers, Armstrong-Flack dont stop there! THE LUGE! A small device like a sledge, about 2 inches off the ground, with handle bars. There is a braking system as you hurtle down the black runs, oh Colin (as Laura would say) for a speedster its great fun AND we get 5 runs! As each run ends you have to ride a ski-lift back to the start, more adrenalin, if ever you get the chance Do It! Its fab.
Queenstown really is a lovely town, built around Lake Wakatipu, it buzzes with life. Backpackers, Grey-movers (thats folks like us!) Famillies. Everyone enjoys the place. Its clean, neat, tidy, full of cafes, bars, lovely shops, restaurants, lovely gardens and the Lake.
So to go from one extreme to the other, we did a leisurely dinner cruise that evening on Lake Wakatipu on the T.S.S. EARNSLAW a paddle steamer just over 100 years old. Around 250 passengers were sailed across for around an hour to a Homestead then we all enjoyed a superb buffet dinner in beautiful Victorian surroundings. The Scottish settlers built the Sheep station in the 1850's and it has been restored impeccably with incredible gardens, the setting is wonderful. After dinner we were given an amazing display of 'One Man and his dogs' with the Owner showing us the prowess of his Sheep dogs before he ended the evening shearing one of the Sheep. We cruised back into Queenstown as darkness fell, an evening of most unusual entertainment but great fun.
