Monday 15th December 2014,
Gatwick to Havana Cuba, courtesy of dear Mr. Bransons airline, Premium Economy. Treated like humans, "Can you hear this B.A.? and the dreadful service we got from you crossing the pond in February." Lovely staff, proper cutlery, a choice of wines, ice creams with our films and a packet of LOVEHEARTS to enjoy, no less to ease our ears when we land. That was the good part of the day, the chaos of Havana airport was ahead. We landed at 5.10 pm got easily off the plane and walked simply into the customs hall which was eerily empty with maybe 20 desks where perhaps 3 were manned. After a unending wait every so often a mean and moody security worker ushered us towards a desk as a latex gloved passport controller stared into the air above our heads. If we dare move forward we were told to wait. Welcome to the Red state! Had we been to Africa???? This is all they wanted to know, the gloves? Ebola! Oh the joys of travelling!
We thought that was the hard part, oh gosh no. Our luggge we prayed would slide down onto the carousel any second now. We thought that for over an hour. A full 3 hours from landing to hotel! Welcome to 'Mañana' Once ensconced in our beautiful restful room at Parque Central, Havana, it was shower, change, eat, chat to fellow Brits and their tales of the city. After a couple of glasses of bubbles and something to eat, it bedtime!!!! We are exhausted, but wow, we are here!!!!
