Lisbon is a beautiful city sprawling with old buildings with intricate tile facades and the iconic red terracotta roof tops. It is hilly and we are getting our exercise walking up the narrow streets and cobbled paths. We are here for three days and so far have enjoyed exploring the cities neighbourhoods like the famous Alfama. After a thrilling trolley ride across the city up narrow streets and roller coasting down the next hill, we climbed to the top of the Moorish Castelo and took in the views. It is a stunning panoramic view from the top and thankfully shaded and breezy. It's 32c today....hot and sunny! We wandered down the winding streets past little shops and restaurants. Last night we took in our own neighbourhood of the Barrio Alto and its lively Fado music scene. Fado is the Portuguese blues, a folk music famous here with traditional songs and instruments. The singers are excellent and we were lucky to sit beside one at our dinner. They put on a show while you enjoy their food and drink. We enjoyed four different singers at the restaurant and then after dinner we went to another little place that was packed with a few more singers. We were lucky to get seats at a table with others and We had a great experience meeting people from different places in the world. Fado is very moving to listen to in the right atmosphere. Music can be heard all over Lisbon and it really adds to the experience.
Speaking of music...we are excited to be going to see U2 tonight! We can't wait for the experience of seeing them live in Lisbon!!!! Perhaps we'll run into Bono and the Boys around town!!!!!
