The great Wilson Family adventure has begun, and we have spent our first two days in the busy city of Athens. What a sprawling city and how interesting it is to have the ancient ruins amidst the modern city. We tasted some culture at the official changing of the guard, with Pom poms and men in tights! The Acropolis is still boasting of its history on the hilltop and we climbed the mountain, winding cobble streets in the heat of the midday sun to see it upon our first day. The sun was beating down and we tried to take it all in, enjoying the little breeze and the ancient stories that happened here. A walk thru the ancient Agora was a highlight too. We enjoyed winding our way thru the narrow pedestrian streets and watching the people. We got a good feel for Greece just from wandering. Next day we took in the well preserved National Archaeological museum and Chris and I took in the Byzantine and Christian museum for a little bit of classic walkamania, taking in the brilliant icons of Jesus and the saints. Our impression of Greece has been a great one so far from the clean metro, the kind people, the English spoken, the affordable food, the ancient history and a great little neo classical apartment we have rented for our three night stay. Though our legs are tired and we have been hot hot hot, we are getting into the rhythm of this place. Tomorrow we fly to Crete, and check in to our villa! Stay tuned for the adventure to continue.
