Left Scamander and headed across thru St Marys, a pretty looking town, and then towards Ross where we stopped for coffee. What a delightful town, old but beautiful and the most amazing bakery, wish we could have bought wood fired bread but are on Motel accommodation from now. We did partake of a famous vanilla slice which gave our Gladysdale (Yarra Valley) bakery favourite a run for its money. We had to stop for some road works at one point and I took the shot of the cemetery, made me feel sad that it was so unloved by anyone, would have loved to stop and read some history but only with gumboots on (snakes) and my manly warrior to protect me from the scaries. I want to try and find where we actually were and try and discover something about this forlorn place. Then travelled further south west to pick up a road over the mountains towards Miena and the Great Lakes. Fairly good road for gravel but so spectacular scenery, we got to 1000 metres in fairly quick time and then travelled thru some pristine wilderness and eventually to Miena where we found a hotel for lunch...ho hum but the only thing on offer in this sleepy fishing holiday home village, definitely banjo country. Came up the mountains heading north to Deloraine but stopped to take pics at the Great Lakes lookout then a stop at a walk into a Pencil Pine Lake. This is the only place in Tas they grow and part of the Gondwana land history and related to the California Sequoia trees. Sublime view of these trees and foliage that grows in this inhospitable landscape. These trees had the strangest foliage but the survival skills to live here phenomenal. There were cushion plants 100 years old and they were just beautiful pillows of lush green moss that I so wanted to touch but didn't or couldn't as the boardwalk was well away from disturbing this world heritage listed beauty. One of the best walks and scenery in this trip and it was just a random stop on the side of the road. Anyway we are now at Deloraine, another pretty town but I can hear traffic, ewww, and although listed as Mountain View and we booked 6 months ago we cannot see a b******* mountain from our room only the b******* carpark. Oh well we can but believe garbage reviews on the net, well we maybe didn't pay the most money for one of the viewed ones. Final day on the morrow and he hopes to find more dirt tracks to experience prior to arrival in Devenport for our final night.
Love as always
