i know i said in the last entry that i was going down to townsville but really there was nothing to see or do so we just made it a one night stop. there was no pub, bars, people etc and the hostel was a huge place with no form of life in it.
once we got on the ferry over to Magnetic Island we got off and made our way to the resort which was on the east side of the Island. this was quite a nice location next to the sea and was quite cheap.
we decided to go for a walk and see what was around, josh had told me about a place where wallabies sat and played on these rocks just down the road, so i went for a stroll and found about 20 of them hopping around compleatly unafraid of human contact. it was bizzare.
later that day we went for a walk called Forts walk. this took you up to a fort at the top of the island. and on the way you were supposed to see koala bears. so we arrived at the base of the walk with high expectations, but as the day drew on it got less and less exciting.
eventually we got to the forts which were built in WWII, it housed about 200 soldiers that built a little village on the hill. it had barracks, lookouts and gun placements. it was all camoflauged to look like rocks. which was quite clever. i held back abit to take some pictures and i managed to find an ammo container that had about 50-80 bats all grouped together on the roof of the container. it was a brilliant experiance. especially when they heard a noise they all flew off and managed to dodge past me at lightning fast speeds and bearly make a sound.
i soon caught up with josh who was standing victoriously ontop of his lookout. then we headed back to the main town on the island which was a 7 mile walk.
we got the bus back to our area of the island and started drinking. later on a bloke came and sat next to us that was a nuerologist/hypnotist guy. (i cant remember his full title it was soooooooo long!) anyway, he was really intresting and managed to tell us how Derren Brown did all his tricks with suggestion, and gave us the reasons why it works. eventually after a few beers he managed to put Josh into some kind of trance, which was bizzare.
after that we had to sit through another rainstorm and just watched roadrunners running around the picnic bences, until someone saw a possum and its baby. we all had to crowd round this possum and watch it feed from the bin with a baby possum on its back. (little things amuse us all when we're bored!)
the next day we headed back to the mainland to go south to airlie beach, which is where we will sail around the whitsundays.
