2665 MILES PEOPLE!!!
2665 miles
Current mood: drained
Yet another page in the insanity that I like to call "My Life". This particular adventure has definitely not been without it's interesting blips & bleeps. Let's begin with the packing. Apparently one can amass a great deal of crap in the span of 15 months and within as small of a confined space as 450 sq. ft. Who would've thunk it???? Certainly not me. I can't imagine how much more I would have had to pack had it not been for the fact that I gave away about 80% of my stuff to my dear friend.
Now, when one plans to leave at a certain time, one expects to keep one's schedule. But oh no....it doesn't happen that easily for THIS particular one. I had planned on bailing out of my hell hole of a suburban neighbourhood by noon on Saturday (notice I've reverted back to spelling things the CORRECT way - using Queen's English people!!!!). But alas, that joyous occasion was not meant to be. Fast forward now to 7:00 pm - yes...that's right....7:00 pm. Instead of noon - we're now at 7:00. Of course, I wasn't able to get out at that time because I had to drop off a wireless router that I sold to someone out by Alum Rock....so by the time I got on the road it was almost 8:00. I've now lost 7 or 8 good solid driving hours. Yay for me!!!
Unfortunately, I was EXCRUCIATINGLY tired - so I wasn't able to drive as far as I thought. Why was I tired you ask? Well, let me tell you. Because on Friday afternoon, I sold my bed. Ahhh....the glory that is Craigslist. I posted that bed on there & within 20 minutes it was sold. I love that site!!! Sorry, I digress. Back to why I was so tired. As I said, I sold my bed on Friday....c'mon now kids....you do the math. If I sold my bed on Friday, and I was leaving on Saturday what does that mean? Yes, you're right....it means I had to sleep on the floor!!! YAY for me .... again!!! I had a sleeping bag, but it doesn't help when you're on a hard floor. JOY!!! Then, of course, I couldn't actually even try to get to sleep until about 2:00 am - because I was still really busy PACKING!!!! Yes, still packing. God almighty, I have a lot of crap. So, 2:30 am I fall asleep and 5:30 I get up to continue the monstrosity that is packing....yay!
I finally finish packing at mid morning & then start cleaning. Yes, I have to clean my apartment because my landlord said they were going to keep my deposit if I didn't clean. Because it was sooooooo clean when I moved in!! Yeah...right....sure it was. By the time I finish cleaning, blah blah blah.....we already know this part....it's now 7:00 pm.
So, by about 10:00 pm I'm completely toasted - not the drunk, good kind of toasted, but the "I'm in a Jeep loaded up with about 500 lbs full of stuff & I'm driving on the freeway at night & I've only slept for 3 hours & I'm NOT happy right now"...toasted. I figured I would make a stop before I crash into some 18 wheeler semi in the slow lane as I'm veering to dodge some rampant wildlife somewhere. And where do I get to stop for my night of rest & relaxation? Oh yes....Sacramento. Oh happy joy!!! Sacramento. The capitol... and no...I didn't go see Arnie - although I should have because I really need to talk to him about the roads in Sacramento. My temporary abode of choice was the luxurious "Motel 6" in downtown Sac. Oh yes boys & girls....Motel 6. Otherwise known as "hooker haven" or "Crack w**** Central". WOW!!! Can you say - no thank you....I don't feel like contracting some kind of skin disease if I come into contact with anything in this room. Good thing I didn't have my blacklight with me - otherwise I would've run away faster than I did. Needless to say I decided to go up the road a few miles & found a lovely "Super 8" motel. (What is it with motels and numbers?).
Now, begins the adventure of the Super 8. I check in - happily - go up to my room - so far so good - very clean & good size. Even has free wi-fi - always a bonus. But, since I'm exhausted & it's about 11:00 I'm passing out as I'm trying to check my email so I figure it would probably be a good idea to get some sleep. Oh yea.....right. Apparently, I'm in the room beside the couple that has decided that they're going to try EVERY single position known to mankind in there room. Now, you're all smart enough - I think you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. ALL FREAKING NIGHT LONG!!!!! ALL .... NIGHT..... LONG!!!!! Can I stress this enough????? ALL night long!!!! Now, at around 4:00 am - about an hour after the last time the headboard banging against the wall woke me up.....I was finally able to go to sleep. But of course I had to get up early in order to make up for all the lost time packing & cleaning the day before. So, at 6:00 am I was up & in the "lounge" partaking of my free continental breakfast & getting myself psychologically prepared for the 800 mile journey that lay ahead......
Stay tuned.....same Bat Time....same Bat Channel.....
