Backpack Party!!
Well hello again everybody! How do????
The day started on a bit of an annoying note when I was waiting to wash my face and brush my teeth in the communal bathrooms, where there are only 2 sinks and 2 mirrors (for about 20 women....you do the math...)
Anyway, I was waiting there for about 15 minutes because some German girl was literally just pouting and rubbing her face in the mirror,I dont know why, it dodnt make her look anny better!!!miaawww!!!lol.
Darn it, I have an A* in German GCSE and I couldnt remember the words for "move it.. NOW!"lol.
Then, some past-it-wanna-be-Jerry Hall or something pushed past me when I was brushing my teeth to put her make up on!!!
I wasnt having any of that, thankyou very much!! If I have to wait 15 minutes for Claudia Schiffer to finish her facial massage before I even get a sniff of the water, then she could sure as heck wait 2 minutes whilst I had a wash and brushed my teeth!! So I told her so..and she tried to give me an evil look to scare me into submission, but little did she know that I am the Reigning Queen of the Evil Look...so she backed down.
Anyway, today, we decided that we would go to the local market that is on every Sunday that had been recommended to us by someone or other, and we walked through the ghost town until we found it.
Seriously, there are no cars...no people, and there aint even that many Pigeons!!!( The Lonely Planet Guide describes Montevideo as "the Switzerland of South America"....hmmm...Im sure that people actually live in Switzerland, dont they????lol)
As soon as we got there I didnt like it. The first thing we saw was a guy selling Puppies out of boxes. They were so cute, and Mum picked one up and gave it a cuddle (she has switched back to being a dog lover now she is sober, obviously...)but, I couldnt bear too, they all looked so miserable, and they were all whimpering, and I knew that if I picked one up that I would simply have to buy all of them, no matter what the cost, so I just walked away.
Further down, there were stalls selling Turtles and Birds in tiny little cages (not together!) and that was quite sad as well, but I suppose that is just the culture, and how its done here. I still dont like it though.
The rest of the market, was. well, a bit like Ashton Market on a Saturday...full of people, but equally full of stalls brimming with crap. When the neverending market gradually morphed into "an antiques fair" (s**t graveyard) that was enough, we were outta there!
So we walked back through the ghost town towards the shops, where we had a quick bite to eat, which was nice...and on the way back to the Hostel, Paul got all excited as he saw a stall selling Mars Bars, and proceede to scoff one, even though he has a dodgy tum today. (They are especially hard to come by in South America!)
To mark the joyous occasion, we stopped to take some photos of the Mars Bar, which of course, we would have never normally have done...but it was the most interesting thing that we have seen in Montevideo so far, no, seriously....so, we thought that it was only right!!lol.
Maybe Im being harsh on Montevideo-maybe we are looking in the wrong places or whatever...but, its hard to ask for directions in a town that has a population of 1000 people or something(all of whom seem to have congregated at the Market for the day!!!)lol.
Anyway, we are off to Buenos Aires tomorrow, which I am looking forward to!!(Except from the boat journey....uuurrghh....no breakfast for me tomorrow!!!)
So, Ill let you know what its like when we get there!!
Love you all loads, miss you all too!!
Take care, and keep in touch!!!
