WHERE VIV'S AT...
Ok I?m a very kind person so before I start this short postcard I think I need to issue you all with a Public Health Warning: The photos of Tassie are now online - viewing these will not be good for your health. If you do have the nerve to view you may experience possible side effects such as envy, jealously, grouchiness and quite possibly even bankruptcy as you proceed to get out your credit card and book a trip there tomorrow (you have been warned?).
I spent my last few days in Tassie on the tour still but with a new, smaller group and new driver and this lot were great fun and the together we made the oddest bunch. Firstly we had Peter and Sonja from Holland (funny couple and newly wed), then Edward and his sister from Spain (old couple no English), two lovely Japanese girls whose names I can?t even pronounce let alone spell + Alex and Richard who are brothers from Dorset (and constantly bickering) and me (with my box of wine). We left Launceston early to go to the North West coast of Tassie but on the way was informed that we had another late addition to the tour so we were going to stop in Devonport to pick up Alberto. We got there and this guy had vanished so we waited 20 mins and finally this little old Italian guy dressed in full combat gear with wild hair and naked feet appeared out of nowhere, saying ?ello, me nama is Alberto and am app to meeta you all? ? this guy was a real character, not just odd but ?out of this world odd? and he proceeded to keep us occupied and amused for the remainder of the trip with his tales of hiking up Everest barefoot, living with Kangaroos in a cave, and killing Tassie Tigers with his bare hands (oh yeah!!!).
So with Alberto on board we headed up to Stanley and the West Coast for more stunning scenery, more climbing (up the Nut this time too), more rainforests, more rivers, more lakes and winder weather than you get in Cornwall. And it was all stunning and all beautiful and we even made it to The Edge of the World where they can also boast more rugged and wild coast than you?ll see on the Great Ocean Road and 20 ft high waves from the wild sea (which we did not get). We tasted wonderful chocolate, great cheese, drunk good wine, ate the best fish and chips and slept in superb hostels and even hugged a big penguin in a town called ?Penguin? ? why would you want to leave?? But I have to, and I?m back to Melbourne and will sorely miss lovely little Tassie.
