WHERE VIV'S AT...
I think I'm on the wrong tour - all we've done is walk and walk and walk and then walk some more and the only drinking stuff I've seen is coming from the mountains and is very cold and crystal clear and good for dehydration.... perhaps next time I should read the brochure before booking.
So, I got the ferry over to Tassie on Wednesday night for 8pm sailing - it's an 11 hour crossing and I had no bed just a seat in business class so, of course I hit the comfy seats in the bar where I met young Carl from Melbourne and between us we consumed copious amounts of red wine and then both fell into our business class seats at about 4am for our arrival into Devonport at 7am (we just about made it). I then had to wait 2 hours for my tour bus with one of the worst hangovers I've had in quite a while so god only knows what the rest of the group thought of me as I fell on to the bus found a seat and then snored my way to Cradle Mountain where I was delighted to find out we were doing an 8k walk up a big hill(yipee!!). Anyway I sobered up but was so so tired so I missed the 2k walk later that night to the pub and just sat in the kitchen at the hostel eating pumpkin (I'd forgotten to go shopping and it's the only veg food the hostel shop had in). And I was freezing - I've now realised that anything below 20 degrees C and I'm cold, so imagine how I coped with 10. Oh and I saw a Tasmanian Devil (3 of them were running around outside the hostel kitchen) which I'm told is very lucky and rare as they don't show up much and it's just a shame I was not quick enough with my camera (there's still hope I've still got 5 days left).
After an early night (well at least for me) we had to get up early for more walking - only 10k this time (easy!!) to Montezema Falls. Then back on the bus towards Strahan a delightful little town somewhere inland where we climbed the sand dunes then slid back down again (I've been here before). I then went for a night walk on the beach (even colder here) to watch some birds come home for the night.
Today we've arrived in Hobart (big town for Tassie) via more waterfalls and lakes and rivers and mountains - when I have my brochure to hand I'll name them all for you but right now all I know is I've seen more trees and more rivers and more waterfalls and more lakes in 3 days than any girl has a right to see (and no pubs yet - but there's hope tonight).
Seriously though, Tassie is really pretty and very very green and lush compared to a lot of places I've seen in Oz. The mountains and lakes and waterfalls are stunning to look at and the walking is not that bad and it keeps me fit. Talking of which I've just got to go now as I've got a bit of a walk - to the pub!!
