Well I had already written my blog for today and tomorrow but when I was in Livingstone my blog crashed therefore I lost these two days :( So hopefully I'll remember something's!
We had the morning to either chill at the swimming pool or go into Lilongwe, the capital of Malawi. Geoff, Nicole, Sam and I got taxis and went into the city as I needed to get American Dollars for my visas for Zambia and Zimbabwe. I thought this would be an easy task and according to Greg it was meant to be but 6 banks later and 2 bureau de changes there was no American dollars to be had. It didn't help that I had already taken Malawian kwache out of the ATM in order to exchange it at a bank. So I was stuck with loads of kwache and we were leaving the country today!! Hmm not the best of ideas but how was I meant to know, that no banks in the city would have dollars!!! If it wasn't for Phoebe and Nicole having extra dollars and willing to lend me some, I would have been stuck in Malawi hehe. It certainly would not have been a bad place to be stuck though.
After lunch time we headed for the Zambian border and managed to cross both borders very smoothly but it was unbelievably hot. Greg had arranged a guy to meet us on the other side in order for everyone to exchange their kwache to Zambian kwache. This is where I learned from my mistakes or more like had to remind myself 'This is Africa'. The currency exchange rate had dropped and I didn't end up a very happy lady entering Zambia after changing my Malawian kwache. There was nothing I could do about it as this was the best rate available as Greg had phoned around in Zambia, so I bought a bar of chocolate and learnt from it!!! Grrr Africa!
We arrived at the campsite just in time for a swim before tea. It was a lovely pool and it was great fun with the African Travel Company truck people. There truck was also heading to Cape Town and we had been at similar campsites along the way so we were getting to know others from that tour too.
It was one beer after dinner and I was sleeping by 8pm. I was totally shattered and definatly needed an early one!!!
Goodnight Zambia xxx
