Lauren and I were on a mission this morning, and that was to hit the Bangkok shops early! We met at reception at 8am for breakfast and then decided to head out... obviously totally forgetting its a Sunday when the tuk tuk driver informed us that all the shopping centres don't open until 11am. Whoops... we could have had a long lie after all. Anyways we were up now so we went along the road and found an Internet cafe to fill in some time until our washing was ready at the hotel. I had a short viber call with Mum and Dad in New Zealand which was brilliant, as I hadn't spoken to them for over a week. Adz also phoned in a very drunken state and spoke rubbish for a good 30minutes which was hilarious. We then packed our rucksacks and it was so good to not have any stinking clothes in my bag anymore :)
We headed to the big shopping centres just before 12pm and the first one was the computer world. It was unbelievable, it was 5 floors of laptops and laptops and more laptops. I tried to get accessories for my ipad to be able to connect it to the tv but I didn't have any luck, I gave up in the end because the whole place was just baffling. Next stop was the clothes mall and basically we just walked in, turned straight around and walked back out... It just looked crazy. We walked back go the Central World Plaza and the Siam Discovery malls that we went into last night, it was a 15 minute walk but in 39 degrees it was torture. The roads were all chockablock and at a standstill, so there was no point in getting a taxi or tuk tuk as we wouldn't have gotten anywhere very quickly.
I was absolutely shattered by this stage as the heat was awful. I was just totally drained with all the walking and trying to get to the other side of the road still alive. My tummy wasnt behaving today either, it was my first day without antibiotics so fingers crossed it's only a once off and it'll start behaving itself again. Lauren really needed to get a new rucksack as her one had broken so we went through all 3 of the Siam shopping centres looking for the sports shops but there wasn't very much choice at all.
We stopped for lunch about 2ish at a pizza hut type place and I had a lovely bacon salad. I wasn't hungry because of the heat but I was exhausted so the stop and seat was well and truly needed. We went back to the Central World Plaza where we were last night and she bought one there. The only things I bought today was a new pair of headphones and a memory card for my camera, so it wasn't very successful. We headed straight back to the hotel after Lauren had bought her back pack and then she headed to her fancy hotel that she had checked into for the night. It was another sad time saying goodbye to someone that I got on with really well and had basically spent every minute of the last 3 weeks with. I went to the Internet cafe at the end of the road where I went in the morning so I could phone Kylie and Jen, as it was Kylies birthday! It was great speaking to them both because it seemed like ages ago since I had phoned them.
I was meeting my new group at 5.30pm to go to the train station, but it seemed really early since the train station was only 10 minutes walk away and the train wasn't until 7.30pm! Anyways we went to a cafe at the station where we all had some thai food before getting on the train. I had spoken to just about everyone in the group by now and everyone seemed really nice. The train was on time and it was a completely different layout from the Vietnamese trains. There were two seats facing each other at either side of the isle and then at 9pm the train wardens came round and turned them into beds. I was on the top bunk and it wasnt too bad, at least there were clean sheets on this train. I spoke to Kelly for ages before the beds were made up and Auntie Rosemary was texting me as she's due to go in for her Radiotherapy markings tomorrow. A lot of the group went to the bar but I went to my bed and watched the end of Bridget Jones on my ipad that I had started watching the other night. It was quite cool how you could pull your curtains and your bed space was like a little pod.
I am really looking forward to a chilled week before having to go home, but the group seem really young and since they all already know each other it's quite hard to fit in when I'm not drinking again. I probably shouldn't have joined a group for this part of my trip and listened to Adz and done this myself. Heyho though it's done now and at least I don't have any decisions to make as they're all done for us xxx
