Well it wasn't the smoothest of train journeys to say the least but it wasn't near as cold as I thought it would be. I was awake at 7am and according to my itinerary we were meant to arrive at Surat Thani at 6.30am so if this was the case we had missed our stop. The whole group was still on the train though so I guessed it was as accurate as the Vietnamese trains. We arrived at Surat Thani at 7.40am which wasn't too late compared to the Vietnam trains.
We then got straight onto a bus and headed for Khao Sok, it wasn't an air conditioned bus but all the windows were open and the wind kept us cool. We arrived at the resort in time for breakfast at 9.30am. We literally were in the middle of nowhere or to be precise in the middle of a rainforest. Our rooms had been upgraded and we got these amazing new bungalows that must have been only a couple of weeks old as all the plastic coverings over the plug sockets were still in place etc. The shower was the most unusual thing, the floor was pebbles and it was so fancy. We had a lovely balcony too looking right onto the river. Apart from the accommodation being really nice there was nothing at all to do here, so the group were all going to a lake in the National Park for lunch and to go kayaking so I joined them.
We set off at 11.30am and headed for Khao Sok National Park. We stopped not long after we set off at the Monkey Temple. It was a forest where over 500 monkeys lived, about 20 of them came down from the trees and we fed them bananas. They came right up to us and the Gibbon monkey that had the really long arms jumped up on people... Thankfully not me :) We then carried on to the national park where we got in a long boat that took us over the lake. It was a massive lake that was full of high limestone islands. It was really pretty and the water was a bright turquoise colour. We spent the whole afternoon here, everyone got out for a swim at one spot then we headed to a floating island for lunch. Well I say lunch it was quarter to four by the time we sat down to eat. There were 4 kayaks at the floating island so folk went out on those but I lay and sunbathed for a while. Lunch was really nice, battered fish Thai style with vegetables and rice. Straight after our meal we headed back to shore, the long boat took about an hour to get back and then the bus journey back to the resort was another hour, so it was a fair afternoon.
We all showered and got ready for a group meeting at 7.30pm. We were all told the itinerary for the next day and had a meal at the resort restaurant. It looked like tomorrow was going to be a travelling day :( I had a couple wine cocktails with my meal and that was the first time I had drank alcohol since my food poisoning. I only had a toastie as I wasn't hungry following our really late lunch, then we all headed down to the bar in the village.
Bowling, our guide, called it the Bob Marley bar and it was very hippy. We all sat on cushions on the floor and waited a good 30minutes for our first drink, by this time I was fed up and when my baileys came it didn't taste good... Eak!!! The group played loads of drinking games but a few of us at the end of the table just sat and chatted. I went back to the resort about 11pm with another girl as I was completely shattered.
I'm looking forward to getting out to the islands tomorrow and seeing the famous thai beaches :) xxx
