Ok so I travelled through Africa for 2 and a half months camping, I have been away from home in different countries for 4 months now, I suppose I'm lucky I haven't got sick before now. Look on the bright side I say :) Yup you guessed it... another horrendous night, didn't sleep very much since someone was still stabbing my stomach with knifes :( We didn't leave the hotel until 8.30am this morning so it was a more sociable hour of the day. We had two mini buses collect us from the hotel for the drive to Chiang Mai.
Lauren had been up all night with a tummy bug and James still had the exact same symptoms as me. We weren't a very healthy bunch I tell you. Liz thinks we should go to the hospital in Chiang Mai this afternoon and I'm starting to think she's right :( There's just something not right, and I don't feel like its going to get any better anytime soon. I do have metriadrozole, antibiotics with me and I'm going to BNF them later to see if there would be any benefit in taking them.
On route to Chiang Mai our mini bus was really fancy and had a flat screen tv so we watched one of Stu and Abi's DVD's, Change Up which was really funny. A few hours into the journey we stopped in Chiang Rai at the most spectacular building/temple I have ever seen. It was called the Wat Rong Khun and was built in 1997 as a contemporary unconventional Buddhist and Hindu temple. It was such a shame we didn't get to go inside and see the bizarre modern images on the walls.. Such as spiderman, Keanu Reeves, Batman and the Twin Towers, there was a photo shoot going on so the temple was temporary closed until the afternoon.
We reach our hotel in Chiang Mai at 2pm and by this stage I felt exhausted. Lauren and I were sharing tonight but she went straight to our room and slept as she wasn't feeling well today at all. I went and listened to Charles's talk about the activities and sights available here and then went up to the nearest ATM to get money out and get some bottles of water. I was just wanting to have a really quiet afternoon to try and get better for this Hilltribe Trek in a few days time. I came back to the hotel and printed off my flight details for Saturday and my trek information that I needed for the next couple of days. It seemed to take forever as the girl behind the desk had no idea what she was doing.
I was planning going down to the swimming pool and sunbathing for a few hours but by the time I changed and went down, the sun had disappeared. It was 33 degrees today so it was lovely jubbly :) I had bought an hours wifi for printing off my documents and didn't end up using it all so for the first time I used facetime to speak to Mum and see her at the same time. I hadn't spoken to them properly for ages so it was a good catch up before they fly to New Zealand tonight. I was starting to perk up and not feel so bad, fingers crossed it continues!!!
I went back to the room and Lauren was out for the count, so I had a lovely hot bath and I felt better after it. We were meeting the group at 6.30pm to go to the huge Chiang Mai night bazaar, I woke Lauren and she was keen to come because we had tickets for the Muay Thai Boxing later. I put on a dress and make up for the first time in days and felt much better, so decided it was time to eat something totally plain for tea. Well that idea went totally out the window when Charles took us to this local seafood cafe at the night market. Nikki, Eddie and Adrian had chosen to do a cooking class this evening so it was only the 6 of us heading out and by this stage Liz, James, Lauren and I were all not well and seafood was the last thing we wanted.
Normally there's at least something that you can order that's western or plain but tonight there was nothing. I ended up ordering rice and bbq chicken but the chicken was all on the bone and pink so I picked at the white meat and left a lot of it. Lauren became really unwell at the meal and ended up going home in a tuk tuk, I went to the chemist with her first and made sure she got in a tuk tuk safely but it was such a shame, I felt really sorry for her because thats what I was like last night.
The night bazaar was huge and sold everything you could think of. Fake DVD's, purses, handbags, watches, jewellery, clothes just anything. We had free time to wonder around until 9.30pm, because Nikki was away and Lauren went back I ended up just wondering about myself and got 3 new DVD's for a pound etc.
At 9.30pm we all met together and went to a famous Muay Thai Boxing match. I really wasn't sure what to expect but it was really good. To start with I was cringing with every punch and kick but by the last fight we were all shouting and cheering. I was just drinking water but a lot of the others were having a few drinks. It was such a good atmosphere, the ring was surrounded by pubs and since we had VIP tickets our seats were right next to the ring and our drinks were served to us. There were 6 matches in total, the first 3 were all junior matches, the 4th was a local fight and then the last 2 special fights were international. Thailand versus Australia and Thailand versus England, needless to say Thailand won both the international fights but they were pretty close.
As soon as the fights were finished, I was ready for back to the hotel but the group seemed to sit for at least an hour just chatting. I was yawning loads by this stage and just wanted my bed. It was about midnight before we got back, and Lauren was awake when I got in. She was feeling a bit better which was good as the two of us are meant to be doing this 3/4 day trek starting in a days time.
My tummy isn't fed up of playing this game yet :( I wish it would get bored and go back to a normal!!! I was straight to sleep though which was good, sharing a double bed or more like a king king sized bed with Lauren tonight haha. xxx
