This hostel has breakfast included which is pretty sweet between 7.30 and 10.30! I made sure I was up in time to get the free cereal and toast :) It was just like a big family, everyone sat and had breakfast together. There is a Canadian guy, Jake, who's 21 in the hostel and his brother who is 19 is in hospital with Dengue Fever at the moment and is really unwell. He was saying this morning that his blood count has dropped further and is 27 now. Totally crazy, and it all happens after one stupid mosquito bite.
Hannah and Sara were planning on going for a walk around the Marina, and they asked if I wanted to join them. We got the MRT, which is their underground. It was the first time I had used it and it's so easy, very very clean, cheap and has air con! So I will defiantly be using this to get to places, just because it's too hot for walking long distances.
We had a walk through the Marina Bay Sands shopping mall, it was amazing, just like the shopping malls in Dubai but I would say nicer. It was full of the most expensive shops imaginable, I kept expecting to see some celebrities shopping haha. The Marina Bay Sands is a huge world class casino and hotel that just opened in 2010, it is a huge building that you can see all around Singapore. It has 3 towers to it with a boat structure along the top, joining the 3 towers together. Its a pretty impressive building to say the least. It was so nice to have company and the 3 of us just had a walk all the way around the marina.
No shock that it was another extremely humid day and by the time we had walked all the way around, we were in need of water and some air conditioning. We went into the Raffles shopping mall, as Hannah needed some toiletries and we found a nice Skinny Pizza place for a late lunch. It was a very weird pizza, and nothing like I had ever had before haha, infant I wouldn't even have called it a pizza :)
Sara was leaving today so we headed back to the hostel around 4pm. She was Egyptian but studying in Malaysia, she was lovely but had some hard decisions to make about where to live etc. as her family wouldn't allow her to have a mosambique Muslim boyfriend, even though she was Muslim herself. It was very interesting hearing about her life and her choice to wear the full hijab attire. She was just lovely and it was a shame we only had 1 day together.
Well Hannah and I decided to go on the Night Safari tonight. Hamish and Lisa had recommended it and others in the hostel had been and said it was excellent. The guy at the hostel told us where to get the tourist bus etc and it was only a 5 minute walk from the hostel. Perfect or so we thought! After a good 30 minutes of waiting for the imaginary night safari bus, we gave up and headed to the pub. It turns out the guy at the hostel, told us the wrong bus stop grrr.
It was only 6pm at this stage so all the pubs were basically empty, on the plus side it was Singapore's happy hour time, so instead of paying £6 for a vodka in was 'only' £4.50!!! But compared to Perth's prices... This was cheap in my eyes! We headed down to Boat Quay to try and find the atmosphere on a Monday night in Singapore. We went to two pubs, and after quite a few vodkas later we decided to go and get food. This is where the evening just went wrong...
Just as we were about to leave 2 more drinks head to our table by the waitress, courtesy of the table opposite. We were totally surprised, embarrassed but flattered I suppose, and joined the table of ex pat bankers who were all out for drinks after work. There was a group of about ten guys, two older men and the rest were early 20's just knewly recruited by the company, after a few drinks with them most of the group left, leaving the two older British guys. They were nice enough to chat too, they were both married and had travelled when they were younger so we were just speaking about travelling etc.
We moved onto the 5* Fullerton Bay Hotel, Lantern Bar (google it.. It was amazing!). We had some amazing cocktails and the view was right over to the marina. It was stunning at night, the bar had a infinity pool too... Crazy! We ended up in a really deep conversation with them, asking about their families and what their intentions were when they bought us drinks. Anyways to cut a long story short, these guys thought it was Ok to cheat on their wifes as long as they didnt find out. Hannah and I gave them a complete grilling and ended up refusing to let them pay for our drinks.
It was such a random weird night, but the two of us laughed the whole way back to the hostel. It was certainly an experience but defiantly not one that I want to experience again. It was about 2am we got back and realised we hadn't actually had tea, whoops. Eatings cheating though... Right?!? That was my first tipsy ;) night out since my bar crawl in Queenstown on 13th Jan!!! That's quite good going since every night is a Saturday when your travelling.
Goodnight folks xxx
