Well it was another early rise, safari was starting at 6.15am so we could see the sunrise! So meant breakfast was sharp 6!!! It was so pretty coming out of your tent looking across the open bush and seeing gazels and wildebeests in the morning!
We got the option to take tea/coffee with us in special thermal safari mugs! First sighting was the sunrise :) my camera doesn't have a setting for sunrise or sunset so didn't manage to get any good pics!
We then came across more elephants, giraffes, zebra's and the usual topi's, wildebeest's, eimparal's before heading to the Masai Village!!
It was really interesting, in the centre of the village there was a large pen, this is where the animals are kept at night! Then surrounding the pen are houses made of wood and cow dung (maybe around 5-10 houses) which are made by the woman!! These villages have no water or electricity and have to walk 3-4miles to collect water.
When arriving at the village the woman performed a dance and sang to us, they were all dressed in bright clothing, then welcomed us into their house! It was very small and dark but extremely cosy! It consisted of a fire in the middle where they cooked, and two beds. Each woman had their own house but the men had several wife's so therefore slept in a different house every night. If the father decided to sleep in one house all the children would be put to their grandmothers house that night! A very different world. The fathers would hunt the food and look after their livestock, spotted a few Masai warriors while on safari but weren't allowed to take photos as they could sue us!!
Then it was back to the 5* bush resort for brunch and to pack as we were leaving at 11am!
It seemed a longer journey than the way there, eventually arrived back at Brackenhurst at 4.30pm! Another mega bumpy and uncomfortable journey! I was in the middle of the back with Johanna and Chris so chatted most of the way home. Realised I had left my headphones too so was unable to listen to music or watch tv series!! I always manage to leave something!! Grrr.
When we arrived back, the rest of the house mates were all wanting to go out as it was Saturday night! The 7 of us were all shattered and I really couldn't be bothered but yes i was persuaded to go and not be a party pooper!!
Actually had such an ace night, we went to Kentmere Country Club, a taxi/mini bus picked 8 of us up at 9pm and it was about 15min drive from where we stay! It turned out we were the only people in the bar all night ha! The boys ordered a £50 bottle o champagne to start with for themselves.. Really have to idea how a 18 & 19 yr old could afford that while backpacking!! Anyways I had a glass of red, a few vodka's (meaning 2!) and a baileys!!
Meaning two vodka's I actually only ordered two - not knowing that ordering 1 vodka in Kenya you automatically get a double.. and yup a double baileys too.
Got picked up at 12.30pm and sneaked a few Tusker beers back into Brackenhurst for the night guards haha!! Think if we got caught they'd have got the sack and we'd all be homeless! It made their night though!
Between 8 of us we must have ate a whole loaf when we got back and woke the remaining 12 that didn't come out!!! Jess and I were the toast, butter and jam factory! Started watching a film, with our cups of tea and toast but I lasted 5 mins before going to bed and attempting to phone Mr S while drunk! Haha.
An ace first night out in Africa!! Roll on plenty more of them in the next few months :) xxx
