At 5:30am we were outside to meet the tour bus. Nikki was not with us as she was making her own way there but this wouldnt be the last time we saw her so it wasnt goodbye. Our new guide arrived. It was a girl again called Shelly but she had a really squeaky, annoying voice. I think we were all glad when the microphone on the bus didnt work.
The morning was a long drive to the Grampians National Park by the afternoon. We crossed the border into Victoria. We stopped in a few small villages along the way for tea breaks and in one case to spot rare white kangeroos. In the afternoon we visited Holllow Mountain which we could hike up or take a walk to see some rock paintings. After that we visited MacKenzie Falls which were quite tall, before going to our accommodation. We were staying in small wooden cabins which were very nice. The room where we were sleeping had carpet on the floor. It had been quite a while since we had seen carpet as it is usually tiles or wooden.
We were up early the next mornng to climb the mountain we were sleeping at the bottom of. It ws called the pinnacle. It took quite a while to get to the top, climbing up rocks and steps. At the top you could see the whole Nastional Park and a huge lake down below. The lookout point stuck out from the rest of the range so it gave it a real "Titanic" feeling of being at the top of the world. After climbing back down we got back in the bus to drive towards the Great Ocean Road. Along the way we stopped off at subway for lunch and ate it on a beach. We also stopped to look at limestone formations in the Bay of Islands and the Bay of Martyrs. It was really beautiful. We also saw a formation called London Bridge but the bridge part collasped years ago so now it is not connected to the mainland anymore. We walked down Gibsons steps to get a view of the limestone formations from a different angle, on the beach itself. The last stop was at Loch Ard Gorge where there were caves in the cliffs. This is where two people famously spent the night after they had been ship wrecked off the coast. We then went to our hostel in Port Campbell and had dinner before once again heading out to watch the sunset over the Twelve Apostles. Even though they are called the twelve apostles there are not twelve of them any more. After sunset we went back to the hostel.
The next day we visited Otway Fly Tree Top Walk. This was a walk through a rainforest and then a walk on a metal walkway 20m above the ground in the trees. At one point there was an even taller tower to climb that went up 47m. This felt really high and was quite scary as it swayed in the wind. Thw whole walk lasted about an hour. We stopped for lunch at Apollo bay where we had fish and chips for lunch. We carried along the Great Ocean Road which had stunning views of the sea the whole way along. We stopped at Kennet river to spot Koalas and feed the parrots. If you had seeds in your hand they would land on you to eat it. One girl accidently stood on a birds tail when it was on the ground. It squawked and flew off but left its tail behind under her foot! It became known as "Stumpy" and got lots of seed as everyone felt sorry for it. We then passed through Lorne and stopped to check out the surfers at Bells Beach before heading to Torquay. Here we had a small amount of time to shop in the surfers outlets but i didnt buy anything. It was getting late so we then headed straight to Melbourne. The final destination of my tour, after 18 days.
