I arrived at the airport and stood in a very long queue at passport control. I ewventually got through, collected my bag, got some money out and went to the door where hopefully someone would be waiting for me. There was, a Thai man in a suite holding a piece of paper with my name on. We walked to the road where we waited for the car to come. When it came it was a 1950's style car. The man lifted my bags into the car and opened the door for me. I went to put my seat belt on but there wasnt one and I remembered I was now in a country where seatbelts dont really matter! They just cram as many people in as possible. It seemed a long ride considering it was advertised as near the airport. Also he seemed to be driving a lot slower than everyone else. We arrived at the hotel, I went in the reception which seemed really nice and payed for my room. They t5hen drove me around to my room. The driver carried my bag up the stairs for me which I felt quite bad about as it wasa really heavy and he was only small. My room wasnt quite what I was expecting. It had everything it had said it would but on the internet it had made it sound a lot nicer than it was. Then on closer inspection the white sheets on the bed were not that white at all and you could see old stains on them. The top one even had a hole in it. At this point I was really tired so I slept right on the edge of the bed.
In the morning I went downstairs for breakfast. This was nice, bacon and eggs with a cup of tea. I then went on the computer to try to find myself a city tour for the next day. I found a few and they emailed me back quickly but they either said they needed a minimum of 2 people or that they do not pick up from my hotel as iot is too far out. I got a map from reception to plan my day if i just got a taxi into the city and went back to my room. I then discovered thecable TV consisted of the Discovery channel and that was it! After a not so successful day I went to the restaurant and had dinner. I played it safe and went for pizza. I then went back to the computer to talk to my mum and whilst I was there my feet and ankles (the only bit of me exposed) got eaten alive by mosquitos. I must have had at least 20 bites on each foot. Then as I was about to log off a mouse ran passed me on the floor stopped and looked at me and then ran behind a counter in the restaurant! I was not eating there again. I went back to my room, watched the discovery channel for a while before going to sleep on the edge of the bed again.
The next day I went downstairs again to reception and asked for a taxi. They tried to give me breakfast but I just wanted a taxi. I got a taxi to one of the shopping centres called Central World. A little bit of normality came back as they had Top Shop, Dorothy Perkins and Boots. I bought a new memory card for my camera and had a look around in other shops. Outside they still had their Christmas and New Year display up. It featured a teddy bear dressed up as different countries. The English one was a Buckingham Palace gaurd and he was drinking a cup of tea. Across the road was McDonalds so I payed a visit. I also found a supermarket so I bought some snacks for later so I didnt have to eat in the hotel restaurant. I walked around for quite a while before getting a taxi back to the hotel. That night I ventured down to the internet again but this time covered from head to toe and drenched in bug spray. I then packed my bag ready to join my Stray tour the next day.
