I flew into Sydney at 8am and got my bags and im pleased to say they let my half a bottle of HP sauce into the country. I went outside and got the free shuttle bus to the Base Hostel. I checked in and then went exploring.
I walked down George Streetas apparently the Opera House was at the bottom of the road. The people in the street were mostly smartly dressed business people and the ladies all had very high heels on. The buildings were a mixture of old stone buildings and new modern glass buildings. At the end of the road was a railway bridge and on the other side I could see the harbour. I crossed over and went in the enterance to Circular Quay. I bought some fish and chips as I hadnt eaten anything yet and had been up ages. I found a nice bench with a view of the Opera house and soon found myself surrounded by seagulls! They wanted to share my fish and chips. They gradually got closer and closer to me until one flew towards me and snatched the plastic fork out of my hand and flew away with it. He didnt get a chip though! Ha! When I had finished I walked a bit further down the Quay for a better view of the Opera house and took some photos of it across the water. I found another bench to sit on in the sunshine for about an hour. It was a lovely day. When it started to get a bit cloudy I walked back down George street and back to the hostel.
That afternoon I went to the travel desk to sort out my trip around Australia. The man was very helpful and gave me lots of information and leaflets to look at. Whilst I was at the travel desk the fire alarm went off and we all had to go outside and line up against the wall while two fire engines came and said it was ok to go back inside. When allowed back inside I went to my room and began looking at my leaflets. I was sat reading them when T-Bone who I met in South America text me to meet up as he lives in Sydney. He came to my hostel to meet me and showed me around Darling Habour. We then went for a burger in Cheers pub before he walked me back to my hostel. It was really good to see him and catch up.
I went back to reading my leaflets when there was a knock at the door. It was someone from the hostel saying come down to the bar now for free drinks. There were lots of people in the corridor waiting so I decided to go just for a litlle while. The bar is called the Scary Canary. The free drinks were beer or champagne with blackcurrent in to make pink champagne. I met a girl called Steph from Germany, a girl called Lucinder from Wales and two boys called Sam and Jake from Surrey. They had just got a job putting up the Christmas lights inSydney. I stayed and watched a game of beer pong before leaving and going to bed. It had been a very long day as I was up early for my flight.
The next day I had a nice lay in until 10am before having a shower and washing my hair. I then ventured out again exploring. I decided to go on the city sight seeing tour on a red open top double decker bus. It had 34 stops and lasted at least 3 hours. It was very interesting and I learnt a lot of things. For example, the word Kangeroo in aboriginal means "I dont understand." This is because when the English first met the aboriginals and saw an animal they asked what it was, the aboriginals said "kangeroo" - I dont understand, so they called the animal kangeroo! The bus went to the famous Bondi Beach, Rose bay, Hyde Park, Kings Cross, Darling Harbour and Circular Quay. It was quite sunny but a bit chilly as there was a wind. I still managed to end up with a red face though. After I got off the bus I went to Woolworths to buy some food and made myself bolognaise.
The next morning I went to meet my Aunties brother called David and his wife Gill. I met them at Circular Quay and we went to a cafe for a hot drink. We sat there about half an hour and they offered to take me on the ferry to Manly. We timed it perfectly as there was one leaving in 5 minutes time at 12 o'clock. It was quite chilly on the boat so Gill leant me her pink waterproof coat. It took about 35 minutes to get to Manly. On the way we got some good views of the harbour bridge and the opera house. When we got there we walked down the street to the other beach on the Pacific Ocean. It was quite cold and there was only one brave person attempting to surf. We found a nice fish and steak restaurant called Watervue and had dinner there. I had steak and chips which was very nice. After dinner we walked down a different street back to the ferry. When we got back to Circular Quay I saod goodbye to them and made my way back to the hostel to finalise my trip. I got my Sydney to Cairns part all planned out and all that was left was to pay for it when it was all typed out.
The next day I checked out, went for a walk around town and payed for my trip. I hung around the hostel until it was time to catch the night bus to Spot X.
