On the way from Arica to San Pedro I had a stop over in a seaside town called Iquique. I arrived in Iquique just after 1pm. I caught a taxi to my hostel. It was really close to the beach and was in the nice area of town where the streets were lined with palm trees. However, unfortunately it wasnt beach weather! The hostel was really nice. There was an Irish girl in my room so it was nice to have someone to talk to this time. I put my bags in the locker in the room and armed with another map, I set off exploring!
I walked towards the centre of town. It was quite a long way but eventually the buildings turned into shops. I had a wander around, did some window shopping and was looking for somewhere to eat as I hadnt really eaten anything all day.l I came across a nice looking cafe and went inside. I ordered a small pizza. When it came I was slightly disappointed as the tomato layer was one of those sweet sauces they do in South America. So it was more like jam than tomato puree, but overall it was ok and I was hungry. After that I went to the supermarket to buy some breakfast for the next day as my bus was leaving early and once again I would miss the free breakfast at the hostel!
I went back to the hostel just before it got dark. I spent the evening chatting to the Irish girl. She was telling me about San Pedro and I told her about Peru. There were also lots of other people sat in the lounge area of the hostel, so it was a nice evening chilling out.
