Arrived in Melbourne just before lunch but for the third time since travelling my luggage decided to go on another flight...this time to Sydney so had to wait a while for the flight to come in and claim my rucksack, still at least it turned up!!
I wished I'd stayed longer in Melbourne, so much to see and do. I had a quick rec of the city for a couple of hours before it got dark and headed back to the hostel...20 mins by tram north of the city.
I met up with Nic and Paul on Sunday. Caught a train to Williamstown beach where they met me and we had lunch by the sea then went for a wonder through town. There was a festival going on so lots of people about. It was so nice to catch up with familiar faces, had a lovely day, thanks guys, so good to see you both, Oz is definitely agreeing with you. Meet up with Kirsty when I got back into the city and went to a roof top cinema evening...great fun...sat in deckchairs with blankets and cocktails, with views of the city alive with light, music and activity, cool!
Monday 26th went out and did as much as I could as last day in the city. Went to the Botanical Gardens, cruise along the river, Federation Square and a mooch around for bargains!
Tuesday 27th - Up early to meet up with tour I have booked for next 6 days, Melbourne - Adelaide Safari - along the Great Ocean Road and Kangaroo Island back to Adelaide.
We travelled through Geelong towards coast to Torquay. Stopped briefly at Bells Beach where they have the world famous surfing comps...then drove along the spectacular winding coastal Great Ocean Road, absolutely lovely. Quick stops through Lorne and Apollo Bay then onto the Otway National Park where we spent time at the 25m high elevated tree top walk, good fun. The day ended by seeing the sun set at the 12 Apostles, it was a little too cloudy unfortunately to get a really good sunset but fab all the same. Stayed the night in Princetown.
Next morning another early one...Went to view the 12 Apostles again, and decided to take a scenic helicoptor flight across them, i got to sit up front...great fun! A full day touring around and that night stayed in the Grampians a lodge called the Asses Ears...really good fun!
Thursday 29th - up early 'again' - this time to hike up Mount Amos - the climb was worth it...views across to Wineglass Bay...just like the postcards, lovely! Dropped off early evening in Adelaide, sharing a room with Helen and Mags, end of tour drinks, which turned out to be a very late one or early
