14th August 2007 (again)
Ok so we landed at our next destination and new continent - Santiago, Chile in South America. With no accommodation booked either! Oops. So sorted out a place to stay at the Airport. - Hotel Plaza Londres, sounds posh doesn?t it? Hotel London. Well, its not - a complete dive but at least we get our own room instead of a dorm or a cold campervan i suppose, although our room is freezing! Well i couldn?t keep my eyes open any longer after an 11hr flight with not much sleep and then a 16hr time difference is a fair heck! So straight to bed i went and didnt wake again til 7pm ish. Then i got up and we headed out for a bite to eat - hot dog and drink for 75p, now thats more like it! Chile is indeed chilly, we wrapped up in scarves and hats and gloves, and we were hoping South America would be warmer! Sadly not!

Last night was unbelievably cold, i slept in my clothes and got up to a pathetic cold shower. Not nice :( So we have both been slightly homesick today, missing the luxury and warmth of home and nice people around us. Not happy bunnies. So we headed out into the centre today into ´Plaza de Armas´- not much to do here considering it is the country´s capital! No tourist tacky shops, so we walked to find another hostel, one with a bit of warmth. Looked in a few and hopefully we´re going to stay in the ´Hotel Paris´tomorrow night if there´s a vacancy. Fingers crossed. Going to look for accommodation in Buenos Aires, Argentina tomorrow and hopefully get something a bit more decent than this shack! Finished a book called ´Growing Up With Subbuteo´written by the games inventor´s son. Its been my closest connection with football for a long while! Now onto a new book called ´Marshmallows for Breakfast´. So gonna wrap up in bed and snuggle down with it.

This morning we got up and threw as many clothes on as possible! Then had breakfast and checked out of the icy cold hostel and into Hotel Paris where there is a radiator! Not much luck on getting any accommodation booked. Found a mini Chillean market where i found my shot glass! Woo! Then just spent the rest of the day wandering about the city and sat people watching in a coffee shop. Had a walk up to Cerro Santa Lucia, a monument, and thats about it!

Today we had a lie in til almost midday as I couldnt get to sleep, last night until at least gone 3am, our body clocks are totally messed up. Went on the internet to find that one of my best friends from Primary School is also in Chile for a year teaching English for his uni degree. We were going to arrange to meet up but i guess he has a busy schedule and we´re leaving tomorrow but never mind. Me and Jen then headed down the markets again. I cant believe we´ve struggled to spend 50pounds in 4 days!! And thats including accommodation! Up early tomorrow for our next journey - ARGENTINA!
