After another long flight we arrived in Sydney (Rach and I hadn't been able to sit next to each other on the plane as apparently it was fully booked even though we were checking in 5minutes after it opened..!) But we managed to be apart from each other for 7hours without too much trouble (the longest we'd been away from each other in 6weeks!) We couldn't believe we were already in Australia - it had always seemed so far away (time and distance wise) and when we arrived we were happy to be greated with cool weather - i'll quote myself - "it feels like your in a room with air con on all the time!" - to us it felt amazing to not be feeling way to hot constantly!
Our hostel was quite scary - everyone seemed really settled and the common room was full and noisey - felt like a new kid at school! We were shown to the dorn but not told what beds were free - none of them looked it! The room was a mess and smelly - boys! But we chose and beds and headed out for some food - it was 11pm by this point! Got an early night...well tired...our room is above the garden so its extremely noisey as they sit out there playing music and drinking till the very late early hours! Ear plugs became useful again!
We didnt managed to get up and going till after 12 on our first day...we blame jet lag...and headed straight to the train station to get Rach's train ticket reissued (it was stolen in the bag) but me being me i forgot to bring my train pass so we couldnt book the trains like planned....I blame rach she should of learnt i have a rubbish/stupid memory and she should of reminded me.....Then we headed out and wandered around the streets not really having an aim - went into a market and did a bit of shopping (its now like tradition to go shopping when we arrive in a new place!) My friend Adam from uni has just moved to Sydney for a year so we arranged to meet him for coffee and had a good catch up then headed back to the hostel - made our own tea - pasta and sauce, and spent the evening being one of the settled scary people in the common room!
On our second day we were determined to get going earlier - i think it was around 11am - is hard to get ready when there is only one shower to about 4 dorms of 6 people! We decided to spend a day sight seeing - headed to Sydney harbour - I was really quite excited but when we got there I felt a little let down - the Opera house really isnt as amazing as all the pictures make it out to be!! Tho we did have a gorgeous icecream as we walked around so that was a definate bonus! After getting over our disappointment we wandered past the opera house and into the botanical gardens - they were really amazing - we saw flying foxes in the trees which was quite exciting! Also quite a few odd looking birds and some gorgeous trees and plants of course! We wandered back to our hostel - through really quite a rough area - seemed to be a town made of tramps - we walked quickly!
Its seems like days in Oz fly by and we never seem to get half as much as we'd like to do done! We seem to spend alot of time wandering around - it feels much more like your at home or at least in a place you can relax and not have to get up to much!
Our third day we decided to head to Bondi beach - was a gorgeously hot day - the beach is really nice - quite busy and full of beautiful bronzed people as i'd expected! We had a really nice lunch on the sea front and then headed off in search of Rachel's long lost great uncle who lived in the area (but didnt know Rach was coming to see him as all she had was his address) it took us quite a long time wandering around following a number of different peoples directions before we caved in and got a taxi - depressing news is once we finally arrived no one was home!! Another day zoomed by!
