Woke up 20 minutes before breakfast finished today, but boy was the breakfast good. (Pretty sad the things I get excited about these days). Toast, Cheese (not the crappy ones that come in plastic wrap but nice ones that came sliced off a big block), ham, salami, pastrami... Best hostel ever.
Walked from the hostel to Rjiksmuseum. Actually wanted to go to the Heineken Experience first but its closed! They are apparently renovating to make it better. Apparently you could experience what it was like to be a beer. Maybe next time.
Went to Rjiksmuseum to look at paintings by Rembrandt and co. Pretty cool paintings I have to say. Wasn't a big museum so finished it in about 1.5 hours. Bought some postcards of some cool paintings that I like.
Then went to sit outside behind the museum where there is a big I AMSTERDAM thingee and people were taking photos. Bumped into Vera, Mish and Fiona and chatted for a bit.
At 4pm went on a Mikes Bike tour into the country side. I have probably ridden a bike less than 10 times in my life so was feeling a little scared especially with the trams and bikes that charge super fast at you. Having to look RIGHT first (not in NZ anymore Vicky!) and look over your shoulder while you are trying to go straight without hitting anyone was a little scary.
Went to the country side where we saw a real windmill where someone actually lives in it. Apparently the windmill was placed there for tourist purposes and someone was asked to live there to look after it. He/She (we couldn't tell what gender that person was) must get so pissed at all the tourists. He/She went back to his/her windmill house as soon as we showed up.
Next stop was a cheese/clog factory where the guy told us how he made cheese and we got to taste/buy some. I really wanted to buy some but I dont think I would be able to finish a whole block myself. Then there was a really wierd guy who showed us how he made clogs. He could speak a little chinese/cantonese so was randomly putting bits of chinese when describing the clog making process. Anyway he was wierd.... actually there are alot of wierd men in this city.
After that we headed back to the city centre where we ended up in Vondelpark with some wierd Brazilian dude singing to our group of 30 or so bikes.. Pretty sure they were high.
Dropped the bikes back and we went to buy some bread and meat and had a little picnic behind Rjiksmuseum (with the cheese some of us bought). Good little way to finish off the day.
