Fraser Island was actually amazing, so so beautiful and thankfully the weather was sunny practically the whole time! We spent the weekend with Kim who was also on our tour so that was lots of fun.
We arrived on Monday lunchtime after taking the ferry over a very still shark infested sea, we went into the forest to have lunch and whilst that was being prepared went for a walk through the forest to see a fresh water creek. After lunch we started the first of many VERY bumpy off road tracks in our 4WD to get to our destinations. Our stop that day was Lake Birrabeen, which was a beautiful fresh water lake, the sand was so white and it was literally an amazing view, we obviously worshipped the sun and then enjoyed a swim without the worry of sharks, stigners, crocodiles etc! It was amazing, you could actually drink the water and it was so clear! We then went to our first night campsite to set up our tents etc, in the forest, so I was a little apprehensive after being told all the poisonous snakes in Australia are present on Fraser Island, along with dingos, spiders and sharks! We then we had dinner - steaks, afterwards we were all drinking 'goon' which is this really cheap Australian drink which comes in 4/5L packs for $14 and gets you very drunk! Emms and I were making a trip to the toilet and managed to run right into a snake! We obviously screamed and ran straight back to the camp and then everyone came to have a look and our guide informed us it was harmless, so we were able to touch it. It was absolutely freexing in the evening I had a very bad night's sleep, as when we said to the person we booked with that we had sleeping bag liners and if they would be ok she said we would be fine..Definately not! Had an amazing first day and fingers crossed the weather would be as good for the next few days.
