We are now in New Zealand! Which is very exciting, looking forward to travelling on from Christchurch though as it is very dead here since the earthquake. It's a shame because you can see from wht's left standing that it would have been a very beautiful city! I got quite homesick though, becuase we'd just come from Amanda's lovely house, and even though our hostel was perfectly fine, being in Christchurch made me miss home, as it really reminded me of England! I later found out that this was due to it being founded by the Church of England! When we arrived at our hostel here, the man at reception said he'd felt 12 aftershocks in the past day..! I was a little nervous as I really didn't want to feel any! Luckily we didn't, even though we were here 2 nights. I really liked what I could see of christchurch though, the whole centre of town is still closed off, and won't re-open till the aftershocks stop, which can take up to a year. So we were limited as what to do. We decided to go to the Botanical Gardens, and we had a nice walk through the park in the sunshine to get there, then wondered round the gardens and got lunch in the cafe there. It's weird how some buildings are just rubble, but ones next to it can be completely unaffected, it's definately going to take a long time to rebuild the city, it's really sad. Anyway we're moving on tomorrow to Kaikoura, which will be good.
