19th January 2012
Today we left at 8am to head to Tongariro National Park, where we were going to complete the Tongariro crossing (this is one of the top ten day hikes in the world). We started the trek around 10am hoping to be at the pick up point at 6pm. The women who was in charge said that the day looks quiet good take jumpers and raincoats but its ok to wear shorts. I am glad I ignored her advice and wore leggings. The weather was so bad with winds up to 70km/hr. It was not an enjoyable walk, when we reached the top you could not see anything, then the way down I was being knocked over by the wind. By the end of the trip my knee was killing me and I was very wet, I couldn't wait to get into the shower and eat. We finally arrived back to the hostel where I got into the hot tub, showered and started cooking dinner….. hmmmm…jacket potato, chilli and salad (great homey food after a days trek).
