DAY 61 - 62: 14th September - 15th September: Uyuni, Bolivia to Potosi

We arrived in Uyuni after the salt flat tour around 1pm and checked into hostel el Salvador - it was not very nice the shower had electrics hanging out of it and looked like you would electrocute yourself so I decided to give a shower a miss, another day with dirty clothes and smelly socks. I had reached day 13 wearing the same socks and they were not very nice. We headed into to the town to book a bus ticket to leave the next day to Potosi. The town was very small with not a lot to do in. There was nothing there at all, it was literally only there because it was where the tours ended or started across the salt flats.

We decided to head to this Mexican restaurant to get a snack before dinner, although the food look over an hour to come and when it did arrive it was horrible and we did not eat it. It was not the best start the Bolivia all the people seemed grumpy and rude. It was a bad moment. So we decided to head to the minimarket to get some supplies for our 8 hour bus journey the following day. When we got back to the hostel we decided to consult lonely planet about where to get some decent food. In the book it suggested minuteman pizza, which was located on the edge of the army base slightly out of town, so we thought we would give it a try. It turned out to be amazing; it was run by an American guy and was full of gringos (what the locals call foreigners).

After that we went back to the hostel to get some sleep before our bus in the morning. We all woke up around 7am and decided to pack our bags and head into town to find some breakfast. We found a café that served eggs on toast; it was a lot better start to the day. After breakfast we grabbed our bags and headed to the bus. Considering what I had heard about the buses in Bolivia we were all a bit apprehensive on what the bus was going to be like, but it looked ok. It was a very long bumpy journey to Potosi, going through the mountains. About half way we stopped, the tire of the bus was broken so we ended up changing the tire and after about 40 minutes we were back on the road to Potosi.

We arrived in Potosi around 3:30pm, I had heard from two English girls I met in La Serena, that there was a really nice hostel called Kola Den; we needed a nice hostel with a good shower, so we decided to get a taxi there. It was really nice, the room was clean and was less than £4.00 per night. We headed out to get some food, then came back and I had the longest shower ever it felt great.
