Slackers,
Excellent message. Great to hear you are doing so well. I'm at work and there is nothing going on so your website is a major part of my day. Went out on sat night and ended up in a transvestite bar - very revealing.

Verina And Toby
Hello All, I know what your all thinking SLACKERS!!!! Yes we can safely say we have got caught up in the chilled out way of live in Freo, (with the hippies) and got abit slack on the diary front. Sorry to all of you who are on the edge of your seat waiting for the next chapter of the Vetoby travels. This will prob be a long one so I will expect some messages back for all my efforts!!! Need to know all the gossip at home please all the details!!
As were so far back Ill start will around Tobys Birthday celebrations. Yes he is Officially an old git now 26!!! Thank you for all his bday messages.
Heather left to go to England on the 8th, there were tears at the airport slightly overshadowed by the fact that Chris Martin and the rest of Coldplay were infront of us in the queue. Gusty Jess walks straight up to him and gets his autograph while I stood next to her looking like a right lemon!! (Remembering the last time we were meant to see Coldplay at Glastonbury those there will remember the highly funny incident!!!!!!!)
We are officially jet setters now seeing famous people at airports Romeo from So Solid sat next to us at Heathrow wonder who wel see next??
Anyway we were sad to see Aunty Heather go, and realise we suddenly had some responsibility for the first time in months. When the only thing we were used to worrying about was our backpacks. Now we had a house, car, two doggies and my 15 year old cousin (and her new 19 year old boyfriend!) to worry about. ARGH!!! Also the prospect of getting a job!
We arrived home to some surprise visitors Rachael and Nick had arrived in Perth early. It was so surreal and wicked to see them. Meeting up with friends when your thousands of miles from home is pretty crazy!! We found them in the car park Nick hanging of the ladder of his van and quickly caught up with some drinks at the Newport and a good feed from the Shanghai Sheds. Followed by a swift stop at the drive thru bottle shop (they are everywhere here, a weird concept to demote against drink driving?)
The next day slightly hungover we took them for a tour of the town, to the EShed Markets and had Fish n Chips at Cicerelles at the Harbour (Note the dont feed the seagull signs) Took a trip to the Freo Markets and took advantage of the Sunday evening scrabble as all the fruit n veg bit goes crazy everything is a DOLLLAR DOLLAR!!!
*TOBYS BIRTHDAY*
Began early with our 2nd job interview of the trip. We donned on the smartest attire we could find and headed down to the Holiday Club. Got the jobs training would start the next day. Good start to the day.
Later we ventured into town had a huge pizza lunch and picked up some booze for the evening later. Had a drinking n jamming sess (well the four of us trying to get some wierd sounds out Tobys new Didgeridoo!) then headed into town to the Orient and then Little Creatures where we sampled the infamous Pale Ale. Started to realise that Monday nights arent the busiest in Freo headed back to the Orient again for abit of Drum n Bass, had a little dance and the music was turned off at 12. Rubbish!! Chatted to some fellow travellers and were invited back to a party by a crazy girl who couldnt keep her head still. Decline the offer for the party and headed home, Nick fell out of the tree! Woke up with leaves in his pants strange boy!!
We arrive at the job induction (slightly hungover!) to find it is cold calling, trying to sell timeshares, not what we had hoped but decided to give it a go. We are given a script to learn and a handbook on the art of persuasion (more like harassment). The next evening we started work, they then informed us that the pay scale advertised in the paper had been changed at that we wouldnt be receiving a wage it was now gonna be commission based work. After 5 hours of hell, people telling you to f*** off as they are having dinner and those were the ones being nice about it. I decided that this wasnt the job for me the pay worked out at $30 (about 15 quid a night) if you couldnt cone anybody into making an appointment. Toby was actually really good at it and managed to make an appointment this is apparently very rare for your first night! But I decided that I would rather stick a chopstick in my eye eat noodles everyday for the rest of the trip than ever go back to that hell!!!! Luckly Toby agreed and we decided wed rather not work and enjoy the time that Rach and Nick were with us. So our first job lasted 2 days!!!
By the way its pissing it down with Rain here and it hasnt stopped raining for about 2 weeks now think Im getting that SAD thing, knowing that you are all baking in England, its crap. Its meant to be the other way around, not loving the freak water conditions.
On a rare sunny day we decided to take a trip to Perth, we visited Kings Park which is situated right in the heart of the city its huge. We did a tree top walk amongst the gum trees it had great views of the city took lots of pictures. Also spotted some green parrots theyve got a great collection of native plants. The botanical gardens were beautiful and the wild flowers were just starting to come out. The school holidays had just started so there were kids everywhere. You can see a few pictures of Rach and me fighting for a spot on the dinosaur.
On the Friday we drove into Northbridge in Perth, the backpacker area and started to put up some posters to sell the campervan. Later that night we go the train over to meet Nicks cousin Louis and had a night out in Perth. It was a really cool nightlife but we were abit restricted as I forgot my passport (stupid girl) they are really strict on ID everywhere. We managed to get in few bars and still had a really funny night. Ended up just catching the last train back, where Nick chatted up the train guard the whole journey as he hadnt brought a ticket. Got back to Freo and had our favorite kebab from Nicks Place.
On Saturday night we met up with Verinas cousin Alex in the Newport, had a good night all got quite drunk. The nxt day we decided to check out Cottesloe beach and its renowned Sunday sessions, we made a picnic and relaxed on the beach, must be getting old as we didnt stay for the evening fun, went back and relaxed got Wolf creek out on video, quick tip dont watch this if you are about to go traveling. (verina had nightmares!!)
On Tuesday we arranged to go on our first road trip out of Perth with Rach and Nick, made arrangement with heathers friend louise to feed the dogs, so we could now camp the night. We drove about 4 hrs north to Nambung National park where we found the pinnacles, these were amazing rock formations, we spent hours wandering through these eerie limestone pillars. We took some interesting photos as youve probably already seen!! Had to drive to the closest town of Cervantes to set up our camp, had a nice dinner and a few drinks on the beach that night was so freezing none of us could sleep, my feet were totally numb in the morning! Drove back the next morning along the long dirt tracks of the outback, passing the 100s of dead kangaroos, and overtaking massive road trains about 150m long!! The next day was Perth Zoo all had abrilliant day and saw some awesome aussie animals, all got soaked as it started to piss down!!
Had another couple of good nights out in freo saw some 6 deck mixing went to the Harbourside club, all felt rather old. Sat night we went to Wagamamas in Subiaco had a really nice meal even better because it was half price(verina found some vouchers in some mag she had picked up. OCD!! Shes got a pamphlet obsession.)
We had all been waiting for this day it was our first Aussie rules footy match!! Fremantle Dockers Vs Melbourne Devils, we had been watching it on tv a lot so understood the rules. Its absolutely massive over here. Jess Rach and V were shouting and screaming all game. Had a few beers and a good feed even better because there is 4 quarters! We ended up winning 96 67 FREO FREO FREOOOOOOO!!!! Joined in with the pitch invasion at the end. Me and V cooked our specialty cottage pie for dinner that night.
The next morning we woke up to find crazy dog Jatz had dug up all the lettuces Verina had planted, trying to catch mice naughty dog!! Drove for hours to find Welshpool were Nick and Rach scrapped there van as me and V decided not to buy it as there were a few problems starting to occur with it and both didnt fancy breaking down in the middle of the outback, Wolf creek still haunting us!! The next day we went to the Aquarium(AQWA) had all the sea life from the WA coast. We saw huge sharks, rays, seals, turtles and many more, we even got to touch some smaller things. That afternoon we dropped Rach and Nick at a backpackers in town as Jess was starting school the next day. We had a hit list of things to see and do the next on the list was WA museum. Lots of dead interesting animals, rocks, aboriginal art and many more, saw megamouth shark only a few in the world! Also went to the PICA(contemporary art gallery) had an interesting couple of hours in there looking at the instillations Your Life is Grand these were short video films from the public, had to vote for your favorite. Had a jam packed day, thought we top it off with a torchlight tour of Freo prison (Nick was s***ting himself) Had a few drinks to get us in the mood and made our way there. The prison was built by convicts from the Isle of Wight! The tour was very interesting and not as scary as we had all hoped, nevermind we got to keep the torches!! Ended up going to Nicks place for another kebab then home.
Chilled out the next day watched March of the Penguins and Memoirs of a Geisha, that night we went for our last supper with R + N at the Mexican in town, wicked meal. Went back to there hostel and played cards and table tennis for hours, I forgot how much I loved table tennis!! Next morning we went out for brekkie at the Dome then drove to the airport, said our goodbyes to N + R as they were off to Singapore, we will hopefully meet them again somewhere in Asia. Had such a brilliant 3 weeks with them both.
Now were practically up-to-date. Back on the jobs hunt, I have an interview on Wednesday and have started to look for work on the net including fruit picking, we are starting to plan the next part of our trip around Oz., which is harder than it sounds as there are so many different routes to take and so much too see all depending on the season and the weather. Something to remember for next time!! Dont chase the winter like us!!
We both promise to keep you up to date with our plans from now on, and start using the board a bit more, so please start leaving messages also. Xxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxxxxxxx xxxxxxxxx
