Tuesday 21st - Once we arrived and set up the van, we went for a short drive around Broken Hill. We went to a lookout and to the information to see what we could do at Broken Hill. Gracie and I popped into the School of the Air but unfortunately, they were all out on a camp and no lessons were being done that week.
Wednesday 22nd - This morning we went and did a tour of an old silver mine - Daydream Silver Mine. We got to see and hear how the miners lived many years ago and then went underground. We had to weat hardhats with lights on them to see where we were going. It was very steep going into and coming out of the mine and Gracie did really well. Miss Independent - didn't want to hold our hands for any help!
We had lunch at Silverton, the original town of Broken Hill. There are quite a few old buildings that you can look at from outside. Silverton has been used for quite a few movies including Mad Max - Beyond Thunderdome.
In the afternoon, we went up to the highest point in Broken Hill - the Line of Lode. This is the top of all the mining infrastructure. Steve and I had a great coffee (which we are missing) and Gracie had an icecream. We then went for a short walk to see the Miner's Rememberance Wall which names all the miners from the start of mining in the area to now that have died whilst working the mines.
