We got up early and picked up a small breakfast from hotel reception. The tour compnay picked us up at 6.30am and took us to their depot where we sat around waiting for others to be ferried in.
We were on a large bus but it was about two-thirds full so not so bad. The bus trip to Kanchanaburi took a little over two hours. Our first stop was at the War Museum and the Allied Cemetry from World War II.
Wandered through the museum (no photos allowed) then walked across the street to the cemetry. Small headstones as far as you could see and these were just the allied soldiers that died during the Burma Railway construction!
We then boarded the bus and were taken to the Bridge over the River Kwai. We walked across the narrow bridge and back. Not a lot of room for overtaking so it was amazing no one fell into the river.
Once we made it back across the bridge we had lunch at a restaurant nearby that had good views towards the bridge. After lunch it was onto the bus and out to the Tiger Temple. It took about 45 minutes or so to get there.
We registered at the temple and then walked through some open areas with a few wild boar and peacocks before reaching the tiger area. The 3 month old cubs were out first and we had the chance to play with them as well as pat some larger tigers that were in the area. A short time later we were all herded into a small area and divided into 3 groups. Each group walked a tiger down to the tigers' canyon. Each person got to walk for a few metres with the tiger while the staff took photos for you.
When we arrived at the canyon the people that wanted "special photos" which was where you had the tiger's head in your lap lined up and paid the 1000 Baht "donation". We paid and waited our turn. We had a few minutes each with one of the larger tigers while the staff took photos and video for us.
After we were taken back outside the ropes we had a drink and then lined up for some more photos with the tigers.
At 2.30pm we boarded the bus and went back to Bangkok. We arrived back at the terminal at about 5pm and were supposed to get a smaller car directly back to the hotel but were told we had to stay on the larger bus meaning we had to tour around the city dropping people off. Eventually we were headed for our hotel and then the traffic log jam set in. We drove in a large circle for 2 hours and were still nowhere near the hotel. We were due at the tailors before 9pm for a fitting so we asked to be dropped off at the nearest SkyTrain or Metro stop so we could get back faster. We were dropped off at Silom metro station and caught the train around to Sukhumvit then caught the SkyTrain to Nana and had our final fitting at the tailors.
Our shirts would be delivered to the hotel the following night between 9pm and 10pm.
We returned to the hotel getting some dinner on the way and then went to bed.
