Ackkkk so busy its hard to keep up with writing...but I shall try.
So I left off on the long walk in Frankfurt. Yes it was...customs involved a cute gal asking me if I was in holiday....that's it. Got to my gate with only 10 mins to spare, sadly cause they had a beer and sausage cart right across from me. Seems like the thing to do in Germany yes no?
The plane was loaded and no one was in my row...life was good...but then got better....they served a hot meal with a bottle...yes a bottle of beer....oh the insanity lol. Was good meal and a the beer. So got to Madrid.....saw some nice roads from the air.....maybe a hint of things to come.
So landed....waited for the bags....admit to praying a bit .....and poof there they were....whaaaa hooooooooooo!. Proceeded to go to customs.....it involved Diego (my bike guy in Madrid) saying Hi as I exited the baggage area....okay....we wondered towards his car me checking over me shoulder to make sure there really was no customs.
Diego is awesome. He loaded up his girlfriend's Alfa Romeo and proceeded to drive me all over Madrid giving me the 411 on it ....... wow.....frigging cool.. The weather is awesome and I'm a lil tired but not bad. So after touring around he goes with me to get my sim card...first snag...shop is closed. Shame cause its right near his shop in the train station. So he says no prob off we go to the big mall....and long story short we waited a long time for nothing. The Vodafone gal was an idiot. So we decide to get the bike ready. Who am I to say no so off we go back to the shop...learning how they really drive by now and yup seat belt was on....my floor board is a little dented from my attempts at stopping faster by pressing on the floorboards..... but fun good fun.
As we get there some other customers are there soooo I excuse myself as I saw a pub nearby....I can then go and read the cool book that Diego made for me ..... its a personalized book of over 200 pages of maps potential routes things to see...and hotels...and foods to try...its awesome! So after a "Pint" I head back and we commence to setting up the bike.....first prob no cruise control crappppp second..no esa...auto suspension control. But beggars can't be choosers so I accept my fate and load up. Had a little problem mounting the GPS as the bars are different than my bike (this is a couple years newer). But I got it done and Diego found me a hotel online and then he grabbed me for a banzai run to another shop for a sim card before it closed. Perfect found a spain card that had a data plan...seems good.
Back at the shop I pump in the address of the hotel and Diego wants to take me out on the town how can I say no...and I'm pretty tired now. So he tells me he'll pick me up at the hotel. Off I go on my first Spanish solo nav trip....wow what a trip at night......amazingly I found the hotel. Roundabouts everywhere.....no GPS = suicide. Couldn't find a north south east west intersection anywhere...frig
Nice place and only 60 Euro with breakfast and its a nice room.
So Diego grabs me an off we go to a lil place he knows....three letters come to mind. OMG! All north Americans need to come to Europe to learn how good food can be.... hmmm to dramatic...me thinks not....
One mention to the staff that I'm not from around here might of helped but they started with the ham....."jamone"...okay..I like ham but omg...this stuff is amazing...and I got the first batch of the season. It's smoked and has to come from certain areas. Diego knows his food...and it shows lil bit lol. So the ham is thinly cut...like see thorough thin...and you get bread that is covered with a tomato paste and olive oil I suspect....and you put pieces of ham on it and munch away. With a fine red wine of course. Delicious now different regions have different hams very important to know.
Now, I've only had lamb once before and it was in Holland...the next thing he had them specially make was a roasted leg of lamb. Again...OMG....was if friggen good....drooling while I write this...speechless.
Okay gathered me thoughts...next up...roast piglet. Wow.... chopped with a plate.....uhhh again with the drool thing. Of course the whole time Diego is giving me pointers on when and where to and not to get roast pig...etc etc... they are pretty picky here....if its been frozen its fake in their eye. Fresh counts huge...getting stuffed but of course they insist I try their local desert....deep fried milk....Yup i typed it right. no idea how they make it...but yup its good....ohhhh then the shots come out.
Diego went to great lengths to explain what each one was...ya...there were three kinds... I'll call em yellow, brown, n fire water. yellow is some kinda herb thing...brown is some kinda fruit thing.....and fire water is ....fire water.
So I try em all a few times and a few more and gotta say the fire water was best in the end. Hard to describe the taste...yellow was sweet...brown wasn't as sweet but tasty...fire water....was .... firewater! Lost count how many....
Diego finally saw and heard that it was time to pour me in me hotel... might have been the slurring or something who knows. I could ablo with the best of em at that point...So I staggered out and off to the hotel ...... face plant..........
