Wow....one day of riding left.....okay need to make this a gooder. Got up and again fell asleep sitting up.......so no route planned the night before. Very tricky this time at the breakfast table. We had told the shop we would be there about 3......they would meet us. So had a few hours to fill with good roads...but we needed to get there in time. Ohhh had I mentioned we are in Tuscany...not many straight roads. So Mike saw me struggling said take your time and he went to pack up. I got a route .... looked crazyyyyyyy and it got me to a point about 2/3's of the way to Milan. Figured at that point we could do a watch check and go more direct if we had to. Mike gave the nod....we packed up.....loaded up....checked out.....and found a gas station and hit the road. Ohh we are getting good at the gas station thing...its still stoooopid though. Can never fill up cuz they are never open it seems.....so you have to feed it cash...cuz visa don't work.....Kinda weird that.
Let me just say the route was freaking amazing...we climbed into the mountains heading to this massive white covered one that loomed over the rest. Only prob riding the curves and there were a lot of em was tire slippage....I again was having some serious front tire slip outs....had to put a foot down once.....not a nice feeling....not sure why....tires look good and pressure is bang on. Mike would only hear an expletive out of the blue. Rattles the confidence...so I was changing me line..experimenting.....and there were so many curves, switch backs it was crazy and a view every where. So we were flying along pretty good.....then we hit it.....construction! Road closed where we needed to be. So we stopped had a discussion....looked at the watch....ya it was time for a direct route. Put the shop address into the GPS....and off we went..on a more direct detour...lots of winding for a bit...then we hit the Autostrada.
Cruise on....and make up time. ETA 2:30.....right up to about the time that we started sucking fumes a saw a fuel station sign, turned off and it was sadly before the fuel station.....so that was a 20 km boo boo...no way to turn of the freeway we ended up on....and Mike's fuel warning light lit up......mine right after him..... and we are not sure where the next station is....so slow it up a bit....get back on track and voila.....there it was a station....just in the nick of time. We topped up......and hit the road...ETA now 3........
Got to Milan and almost lost it....my nav gal was messing with me head .... and the resolution was not fine enough for the turns.....missed a couple I needed....but Mike must of turned the volume down on his Chatterbox as I was a bit ticked...and cussing a lil bit. So I slowed it up a bit.....became more deliberate and almost made it there. Over shot one easy turn by a block. Thought me head was gunna pop.....but Mike heard the gal through the headset.... and calmly said it might be a block back. Stopped looked and sure enough it might be. This time the pink line lied but the voice was right...ackkkkk. Can't remember if I mentioned before I learned to trust the pink line (route on the moving map) cuz the gal might tell me to turn right and the route would turn left.....first few times that really threw me. But the pink line was always right....not this time...weird. Either way....we found it....rolled in....put the stands down for the last time.
Then it was a matter of unpacking and repacking it all into the luggage....that part sucks. But we got er done...squared away the bills and Masimillian (not sure spelt it right) gave us a lift to the taxi. Was a quick trip to the hotel....nice spot and super cheap. Right in the old sector near the cathedral. So we settled in....met up and headed for a wander.
Holy crap...pardon the pun but that is a big church.....only about 5 mins from the hotel walking. So we found it fairly easy. The area is a huge piazza with tons of people wandering around and then it all connects via large pedestrian walkways full of cafes. Well after the cathedral I really had a hankering for a beer...is that wrong? So we wandered around trying to find a cafe where a beer didn't cost 10 euro. Bit of a challenge that was....finally found on one the end...nice waiter filled us in...we could sit...with a view .... big caraf of beer and munchies...15 euro.....SOLD.
Tasted pretty good....and off we went again. Found another pub...another drink....and off we went. Found another restaurant...kind of a tapa bar...so finger foods and a drink....about here I realized I left me day bag at the last bar....ran back and the gal had it in a safe place behind the bar..waiting for me. Not much in the bag cept a camera I like....so wahooooooooo.
Well that pretty much rounded the day...we ended up back at the hotel for a sip..Mike hit the hay....and I commenced to write my drivel....then the waiter informed me of a rather good Brandy....crapppppp...... we had early flights....and the brandy was so tasty.....ended up closing the bar and seriously staggering to the elevator...that's gunna hurt.....
Hmmmm Milan...not bad at all....not a bad ending to the day.
