Prince William and co.
We are on day 4 out of 5 in Cuzco, the tourist and inca capital of South America! Rather than spend a tenner on the tourist ticket to see all the attractions we have been lazing around, spending time meeting lots of Peruvians in and around the main plaza. We seem to have more friends in Cuzco than anywhere at home! We met a lil´boy who was selling some junk and ended up talking to him for 20mins and we have seen him everyday since, messing around with him as he is awesome at English, think he is about 10 and has to work all day selling his parents goods. He told us his name is Prince William and mocks us for our poor Spanish! Met another couple of kids yesterday and spent ages talking to them, more people speak English in Cuzco than elsewhere in South America, we seem to have been befriended by a lot who don´t however... Theres Mani, the coke selling bar owner who we shake hands with whenever we see him, the crazy speed talking woman who tried to get us to go in her restaurant but when we said we couldnt afford it she pointed out some cheaper ones, we have seen her a few times since too! There are a few more people that we end up meeting and greeting every time we walk through the main plaza (every few hours so it seems!) Its a really friendly atmosphere, which is good news as we have spent most of our time chilling out watching films, drinking , eating and watching the football (LIVE ON ESPN!)
The touristica menu!
Che (Sarah) and myself have been eating like kings lately thanks to the great invention of the touristica menu, 5 courses including free pisco sours. We recently learnt that if you hesitate and bargain for long enough they either lower the price or add an extra course on! We had 6 courses for 1.60 last night including al paca (a small llama) with chips...yummy Our Aussie cousin Amelia tells us her friend has an al paca in Oz...she had best hope its out of our reach, sarah wants its fur for another jumper and I want to eat the lil blighter!
We have noticed in Cuzco are the huge amount of drugs that are around, now that we know so many people around the city, we get offered drugs at a speed of 1 offer per 50M! Not planning on taking them up on the offer but its fairly funny. The other tourists around think we are crazy as we spend so much time talking to the locals like we have known them for years! We went to the huge San Pedro food market yesterday and got some coco leaves, Sarah hasnt mastered chewing them yet but she has another few days of practice before the inca trail. Randomly walking through the thin steep streets last night we bumped into a couple we had met in Brazil, which was cool, meeting up tommorrow for a few pisco sours!
Note: a pisco sour is egg white whipped and put on top of some shots, had atleast one a day since we have been in peru and only paid for one, goal!
