We embarked on another long journey, this one including the most scary and treacherous tunnel we have ever driven though. It was how we imagine the Vietcong tunnels only less structurally safe. Having successfully made it through without ending up in a scene from the film 'Daylight', we made it to Milford Sound. Greg hopped out and did a quick change into long trousers and sleeves to protect from the sand flies, managing to acquire approximately 20 sand fly bites in the process.
The weather was overcast with occasional drizzle, we were assured this was actually good weather for the Sounds though. We took a two hour cruise out to sea, seeing the huge mountains towering out of the waters, watching more basking seals and sitting in a boat whilst it drove under a waterfall.
We had decided to do some freedom camping so we headed to our campsite, as had about 100 other campers. Arriving in darkness we had little choice as to where we'd park. However, as Greg had already made a rule that at no point were the car doors to be opened (in order to prevent insect invasion), the surroundings were the least of our worries. We found our lakeside plot and set out on the task of converting the car from car to bedroom with both us and all our luggage inside. We succeeded, the Grape never fails. We settled in and, as there was an enforced curfew by Greg, we substituted brushing our teeth with chewing gum (sorry Paul/Dad). As comfy a night as to be expected in the Grape and, to Greg's delight, no more nibbling insects!
