So.... I don't understand how the entire world doesn't live in Switzerland. It is paradise.
This whole trip, we have been expecting rain. Every day, even my former-meteorology-major dad says that we can't get out hopes up, and to expect clouds, and we day we'll make the most of it anyways. And yet.... Every morning.... We wake up to sun shining into our room. Hey... I'm not complaining!!!
Today that was just the case. We arrived last night to pouring rain so we had no idea what we would see today. So when we walked outside, and within a 10 minute walk saw one of the most beautiful sites we both have ever seen.... We were pretty happy, to say the least.
The view was just amazing. A pristine lake, a bridge built in the 1300s, a hundred trumpeter swans, a medieval wall lining the highest part of the town, all nestled within a panoramic view of the Swiss alps. I believe the phrase 'is this real life?!?!?' was muttered a couple of times.
We sat and took in the views for a long time, just people watching and trying to picture what the town was like before cars. Then we walked up and up, to the top of the town, and to the top of the old walls. There are several towers still standing, so we walked along the wall from tower to tower, taking it all in. After these breathtaking views, we went to a small park just below the wall, and laid on some park benches with the sun on our faces.
We took a short little trolley tour of the town just to see some sights that we wouldn't have been able to see otherwise. Then we grabbed our luggage from our hotel, said goodbye to the sweetest town ever, and jumped on the train to go to Interlaken.
I'm so glad we did the train ride during the day, seriously, a eurail pass is the way to travel. We were heading straight for the Alps, at some points traveling through tunnels for at least 5 minutes straight. We got to Interlaken in the evening, grabbed some tourist info reading material, and we both passed out while making plans for our next adventure.
